Consular Offices in Florida
The State of Florida has one of the largest consular corps in the United States. Consular officers around the state
serve as official representatives of a foreign country who provide assistance to that government's citizens living in
Florida. The state’s ever-expanding consular corps includes consular missions and official trade and commercial
offices from 87 countries. Miami-Dade County has the largest concentration of consular offices in Florida, and is
home to over 70 consular, commercial and trade offices representing 64 countries.
The consular offices listed in this Directory are accredited by the United States Department of State. Florida has 38
active Consul Generals who are the highest ranking representatives at a consulate. There are another 11 active
Honorary Consul Generals recognized by the U.S. Government. These American citizens or permanent resident
aliens perform consular services on a part-time basis on behalf of their home countries.

Florida Sister Cities
A sister city relationship is a long-term, cooperative relationship between two cities in different countries through
which cultural, educational, business, and technical exchanges take place. It is formalized when two mayors (or
highest elected/appointed officials) sign a memorandum of understanding establishing a sister city relationship.
Activities are usually organized and implemented by volunteers, local institutions, and municipal employees. A city
may have any number of sister cities.
Sister Cities International is a nonpartisan 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that serves as the national membership
organization for individual sister cities, counties, and states across the United States. Sister Cities International
recognizes 188 international partnerships with 37 Florida communities. Florida has the second largest number of
sister city relationships according to Sister Cities International. Please note that this number is not representative of
all sister city relationships in Florida and only denotes those currently active with the organization. Membership in the
organization is not a requirement for U.S. cities, counties or states.
