They will disassemble an automotive engine, identify the parts and discover what makes it run. Students will also learn about diagnosing problems and vehicle preventive maintenance. • Automotive Sculptures | $125 - July 10-14 from 1-4 pm for Grades 3-6 If Old McDonald had a garage! Students will get to use old car parts destined for the scrap yard and turn them into astonishing animal sculptures. Children get to use their creativity and hands to build unique designs while learning about automotive components and assembly. • Babysitting Training | $109 - July 10-14 from 9 am-12 pm for Grades 5-6 ONLY - July 17-21 from 1-4 pm for Grades 7-Up Build your babysitting business and become a PCC Certified Babysitter! Parents will have confidence that their children are well cared for by a babysitter they can trust. You will learn what to do in case of an emergency and how to understand caring for children in difficult situations. Learn fun activities that will keep the children in your care happy and excited to see you come back! Note: For students age 11 and up. • Become a Yoga-Zumba Panther | $109 2017 KIDS’ COLLEGE - June 12-16 from 9 am-12 pm for Grades 1-2 4 Explore the techniques of relaxation and meditation while increasing physical and mental strength. Promote self and body awareness through yoga activities and dance concepts. Learn soul train, yoga asana flow training, deep breathing techniques, and meditation practice. Kids will also learn wellness and self-expression through Latin dancing. • Digital Storytellers | $150 - July 10-14 from 9 am-12 pm for Grades 3-6 - July 17-21 from 1-4 pm for Grades 7-Up From the Hunger Games to Harry Potter, we all love a great story. Whether you want to rewrite the ending to Star Wars, add yourself to a Divergent tale, or create a new adventure about your friends - any topic is possible in this class! Start with a concept, design the storyboard, add some dialogue, and watch as the characters in your imagination come to life in your first graphic novel! Projects will be available on a Black Rocket website to share with friends and family. Students will work in pairs or teams for most of the program. Students will focus on strength building, flexibility and coordination while developing rhythm and timing to learn basic hip hop dance moves. Dance terminology is presented while dance steps are combined to music. • ¡Hola, Amigo! | $109 - June 12-16 from 1-4 pm for Grades 1-2 Students will get the basic intro to conversational Spanish, including the alphabet, numbers, days of the week, months, holidays, and common greetings. • It’s Experimental | $125 - July 10-14 from 9 am-12 pm for Grades 3-6 From growing crystals to making bouncy balls, students will put their chemistry knowledge to the test. Students will participate in an interactive class full of hands-on activities to explore chemical concepts by experimenting with everyday items like sugar, baking powder and gelatin. Come and learn the importance of chemistry in your everyday life with these fun experiments. Whether you want to fight alongside Superheroes, create a Minecraft story, hang with the Nexo Knights, or go into space with Rey and Finn, the only requirement is that you put yourself in the story! All students will end the class with a digital comic book that can be shared with friends and family on a password protected website! Students will work in teams for most of the program. Note: For students from ages 8-11 and 11-14. 2017 KIDS’ COLLEGE If you ever wanted to learn about cooking, this is your chance! This class will cover basic cooking skills, basic food preparation, plate presentation and safe food handling. Kids will be helping to create a different menu each of the five days to make a variety of yummy dishes and desserts. Kids can share the recipes with their families at the end of the week when they bring home a special cookbook created for them. Note: Students must wear closed toe shoes and long pants. 5 CLASS INFORMATION • Little Artists | $109 - June 12-16 from 9 am-12 pm for Grades 1-2 - July 10-14 from 9 am-12 pm for Grades 3-6 Develop artistic skills and talents. Focused heavily on the principle of experiential learning, this class will provide step-by-step guidance through art activities. Students will explore different art media. This class will provide great tools for young artists. • Little Chefs | $150 - June 12-16 from 1-4 pm for Grades 1-2 - June 19-23 from 1-4 pm for Grades 3-6 - July 10-14 from 1-4 pm for Grades 3-6 - July 17-21 from 1-4 pm for Grades 7-Up Give your child a chance to plan a snack or part of a meal with these yummy, age appropriate recipe activities. While having fun and building confidence in the kitchen, our learning-focused recipe activities will guide from prep to finished product. This class allows you to develop a game concept that goes well beyond the limitations of the traditional 2D game design classes and create an immersive 3D world. Students will learn the physics behind 3D games, explore beginner event scripting, level design, controlling flow of gameplay, and storytelling. Student created games will be available on a password protected Black Rocket website to share with friends and family. Students will work in pairs or teams for most of the program. Returning students can create more advanced projects that build on previous years. Learn how to create a custom map, the basics of creating 3D models using a new software to design your very own objects, how to build with Redstone and Command blocks, and create custom textures for you to import at home or share with friends. Learn how to make average pictures amazing photographs and gain the ground necessary to continue your photography education. With every click of the shutter, you’ll not only be framing great shots you’ll turn them into amazing works of art. • Robotics | $125 Hands on! Learn the basic principles of cars and other vehicles. You will work together in teams of two and build, test, design, and program your small car or bot, using easy technology from Legos®. • Sign It, Don’t Say It! | $109 - June 12-16 from 1-4 pm for Grades 1-2 Learn American Sign Language! We do not expect any problems to arise. However, this information sheet will cover a few items to prevent any misunderstandings later on. Please initial each box after reading. BREAKFAST AND LUNCH All children under the age of 18 attending full and half day classes are welcome to eat breakfast and/or lunch. These meals will be supervised and provided free of charge through the Summer Food Service Program. Breakfast will be served from 8:00 am - 9:00 am and lunch will be served from 12:00 - 1:00 in Pueblo Joe’s, located on the first floor of the Student Center. Family and parents are welcome to join their children for these meals - please indicate number of attendees on front of registration form. Various options will be available in Pueblo Joe's for anyone who does not qualify for the program. DROP OFF AND PICK UP The best location to drop off and pick up your child is the back parking lot of the Mike Davis Academic Building; this is the building where most classes are held. The parking lot is located behind the AB building on Arthur Street next to the tennis courts. Pueblo Corporate College will have staff directing students and signs will be posted. If you are going to be late picking your child up, please contact (PCC) at (719) 549-3320 so your child can wait in our office. The office is located in the Gorsich Building Room 201B. If your child will be walking home for lunch or after class, our office needs a note stating: where they are walking, the name of the person’s house they are walking to, and that person’s phone number. STUDENT CONDUCT We do not anticipate any problems; however, if a serious situation does occur the following guidelines will apply: If a youth is removed from the program because of disciplinary action, all fees for the classes the student is currently participating in will be forfeited. Fees, for any classes that have not yet commenced, will be returned. Students may be removed from classes for the following reasons: abusive or explicit language, disruptive behavior, destruction of property, any act that may cause harm to self or others. LIABILITY WAIVER I allow my child to attend and hereby waive and release all claims against the Community Colleges of Colorado and Pueblo Community College (PCC), their agents and employees, for any injury, damage, claim, delay or expense incurred by me during the course of the class.
