Highly translucent zirconia Cercon ht: Getting
the shade right and reproducible with True
Color Technology
Shade matching for dental restorations is one of the most sensitive
working steps in the dental laboratory. This is why every dental
technician looks for the best possible platform from which to
perform this step. When it comes to zirconia, Dentsply Sirona
Prosthetics has set a new benchmark with its True Color
Technology. There is a separate Cercon ht blank available in each of
the 16 classic VITA1 shades, and each of the shades matches the
standard with unprecedented accuracy.
Hanau/Salzburg, April XY 2017. Working in close contact with
numerous laboratories in Germany, Europe and the USA and based on a
study by an independent research institute, Dentsply Sirona Prosthetics
has found that shade constancy is at the top of the wish list for all
respondents. They want to be able to reproduce, say, an A3 shade,
reliably and always in the same way. And of course all the other shades
of the shade guide – today, tomorrow and beyond. And one out of two
respondents would even like the matching framework ceramics in all 16
classic VITA1 shades to choose from.
Now the shade guide was originally and is still meant to guide the
laboratory technician to the right shade for a veneered restoration, so the
adaptation of the scale for ceramic frameworks posed an enormous
challenge, as the various offerings currently available in the market amply
demonstrate. By contrast, the new True Color Technology by Dentsply
Sirona Prosthetics has been shown to facilitate the perfect match. In a
series of complex blind and development tests, dental technicians
compared Cercon ht in 16 different VITA1 shades with products by two
leading competitors and declared it to the new benchmark in color
accuracy. The True Color Technology most successfully allowed
matching the 16 shades of the VITA1 shade guide. As an alternative,
Dentsply Sirona Prosthetics offers a trimmed-down shade concept that
uses 6 of the 16 VITA1 shades (A1, A3, B1, B3, C1, D2). This concept,
too, is capable of reproducing all 16 classic VITA1 shades using a
staining approach.
Dentply Sirona Prosthetics’ translucent zirconia Cercon ht lets the
laboratory produce restorations at all performance levels: monolithic,
partially or fully veneered, classic veneers or characterization with stains.
For maximally esthetic outcomes, for example, the entire range of 16
Cercon ht shades would be used. For mostly monolithic restorations, the
trimmed-down concept with 6 shades may offer economic solutions.
All blanks, which are available in disk shape, can be processed either by
Dentsply Sirona Prosthetics milling units (e.g. Brain Xpert) or by leading
open systems (e.g. inLab by Dentsply Sirona CAD/CAM, and those by
