Answer to the Masonic Monday Question for the week of April 2, 2012
Dear Masonic Student,
This week’s question was submitted by Worshipful Brother Ken Baril of the Minnesota Grand Lodge
Education Committee.
Which Lodge in the continental United States has the highest elevation above sea level?
Worshipful Brother Stan Shapiro, the Grand LEO of the Grand Lodge of Minnesota and Albert Pike Lodge
No. 237, in Hopkins MN.
Brother Glenn Kiecker, of Cataract Lodge #2, in Minneapolis, MN gave it a good shot but didn’t get the
answer I was looking for.
The highest Masonic Lodge in the United States is thought to be Corinthian Lodge 35, at 10,152 feet in
Leadville, Colorado. The highest Lodge until 1966 was Corinthian Lodge No. 42 A.F. & A.M. in Kokomo,
Colorado Elevation 10618 feet.
Brothers Shapiro and Kiecker researched more information and found out that:
The highest Masonic Lodge on earth is Roof of the World Lodge 1094 in Oroya, Peru. Its elevation has
been measured to be approximately 14,167 feet.
THE LOWEST IS SAID TO BE Winnedumah Lodge #287 of Bishop, CALIFORNIA which holds its meetings at
270 feet below sea level, the lowest lodge in North America.
