IRSTLY who is the interim Chairman of
WAMSA? His name is John McDougall;
he now lives in a little town called
Cuballing in the Upper Great Southern surrounded
by the Dryandra country.
He was one of the founding members of the Narrogin Mens
Shed Inc and currently is their Chairman.
He has a background in agriculture, rural contracting, agripolitics and spent a large part of his career in rural, remote
south-east Western Australia.
Now down to business:
John inherited the chairmanship of the board of WAMSA
when Phil Barton’s health issues necessitated his resignation.
In addition WAMSA lost another member, John Bryant due to ill
health. However, we have managed to recruit Richard Gates
and Ossie Osborne to the Board and more recently “Ike” Ikin
stepped in to produce the newsletter.
We currently have a team of people dedicated to the aims
and objectives of WAMSA, but we are still undermanned and
desperately need the services of someone to act as our
Secretary, at least until our Annual General Meeting in October,
and possibly beyond.
The Board believes there is room for 3-4 more “doing men” to
join now! We need a pool of 10-12 directors that will allow 7-8
to be available at all times to allow for holidays, hospital stays,
grandchildren and other activities.
The Board has resolved that WAMSA will direct the

SOCIAL GAMBLING

Have fun but gamble responsibly.

of the gambling, and that no levy are

welfare of any child under the age of 16;

PONDERINGS. . .
From Page 1 limited resources to member sheds only.
We are working to put together starter kits to
complement the information provided by AMSA, and a
“Shed in a Box” is being developed. “Shed in a Box” will
be a valuable resource, available to all member sheds
full of information, ideas, sample policies, tips and tricks
to assist sheds to start up and/or operate in the WA
environment.
We are aware of around 110 sheds either operating or
formulating at the time of writing, but unfortunately less
than 50% are members of WAMSA
The Board believes we need to kill off the notion right
now that WAMSA is a well-funded organisation and
available to anybody who is contemplating starting a
shed or running an established shed.
Funding is a real issue for the State body. We can
obtain funding to run events (conferences, planning
meetings and the like) and individual sheds have the
ability to access grants across the spectrum. We are
finding it extremely difficult to obtain carry-on funding for
the day to day running of WAMSA. So we need your
membership.
To look at the “big picture” and set our future direction,
we are also working on a strategic plan (including a
business plan) and doing what we can with the limited
funding and manpower available.
So please bear with us guys: as getting an infant
organisation up and running and attempting to meet the
demand, has been challenging to say the least. We
desperately need your support, patience and a source of
funding.
The Board has also resolved to take our meetings to
member sheds and we are open to invitations. This
includes country sheds as well.
To make the newsletter effective and representative of
WA sheds, we need your stories. So please submit
articles, photos with captions, and upcoming events to
the “The Warbler” now. This newsletter will only work if
all of us want it to!
