REGULATIONS PARK HOURS: 9:00 am until sunset for dayuse activities. Campground gates are open 24 hours during camping season: April 1 — November 31. The park is open year-round, except Christmas Day and New Year’s Day. FISHING: A VA freshwater fishing license is required year-round; the park does not sell licenses. DIRECTIONS From points North of Chesapeake From I-64, take the Battlefield Boulevard south exit, Rt. 168. Follow 15 miles to Indian Creek Road. Turn left onto Indian Creek Road. Drive 4 miles to the park entrance. Or take the 168 Bypass South. Exit at Hillcrest Parkway East. Turn right onto Battlefield Boulevard. Turn left onto Indian Creek Road. Drive 4 miles to the park entrance. NORTHWEST RIVER PARK ENJOY THE NATURAL BEAUTY OF THE NORTHWEST RIVER From points South of Chesapeake Take 168 north to Gallbush Road. Turn right onto Gallbush Road. Follow to Indian Creek Road and turn right. Take Indian Creek Road to park entrance. Northwest River Park sits on 763 acres of pristine wetland and forest habitat bordering the Northwest River, one of the last undeveloped river corridors on the East Coast. BOATS: Canoes, paddle boats and kayaks are available for rental from the camp store. An adult, age 18 or older, must be on each boat rented. 763 acres of wooded parkland on the scenic Northwest River TRAILS: limited to foot travel only, with the exceptions of Deer Island Trail and the Shuttle Trail, which are also open to bicycles. Horses are allowed in the equestrian area and on designated horse trails only. PETS: permitted, but must be kept on a leash at all times. Please clean up after your pet. The park is just minutes from Rt. 168, gateway to North Carolina’s Outer Banks. Northwest River Park offers a variety of activities to satisfy your hunger for the great outdoors. You can paddle a canoe or kayak on the scenic Northwest River, hike or bike the nature trails, or wet a line from boat or shore to catch an evening meal. When quiet hours begin in the campground you may hear many species of owls as they call to each other or maybe catch a glimpse of a fox scurrying by. OUR FACILITIES Campground—66 spacious, shaded campsites are located in a serene setting with picnic tables and fire rings. Electric hook-ups are available. NORTHWEST RIVER PARK Cabins—These spacious cabins make roughing it a lot of fun! Rustic log furniture, refrigerator, microwave, and sink are just some of the amenities to expect. Call for fees. No pets allowed on cabin sites. Equestrian Camping — New in 2013! The Equestrian area is open for camping. Camping is limited to Friday and Saturday nights; Sundays on holiday weekends only. Facilities include restrooms and potable water. Horseback Riding—Available to horse owners, equestrian membership required. Marjorie Rein Memorial Walkway—This area of trails and bridges was constructed in memory of Marjorie Rein, whose love of natural areas was well known by those who knew her. Group Camp Sites—Six group campsites are available for groups of ten. There are picnic tables and fire rings, but no electric hookups. Water is available. Marian Whitehurst Memorial Garden—Built in honor of former mayor Marian Whitehurst, this lovely garden sits on a knoll overlooking the park. Bathhouses—Clean, well-lighted, heated, tiled, modern bathhouses with hot showers are conveniently located to all campsites. Showers and restroom facilities are fully equipped for the handicapped. Amphitheater— The perfect place for your outdoor wedding or other event. Laundry—Coin-operated washer and dryer facilities are centrally located. Activities— Water—Water spigots are located throughout the campground. Dump Station— A sanitary dump station is easily accessible. This shelter is for campers only. Ranger Station/Camp Store—A camp store is centrally located at the registration area. Pets are not allowed in boats or buildings. Park accepts cash and check only Small Shelters—The Park has 4 small shelters. Each holds about 35 people. Large Group Shelter—This shelter has electricity and a serving counter. The shelter can hold about 110 people.
