THE YOUNG PLAN
(1929)
+

The question of reparations was reviewed in 1929 by a
committee led by an American called Owen D Young

In the Young Plan the Americans continued to support
Germany to help speed up the recovery of their economy

The committee presented the terms in 1929

They were officially accepted in January 1930
+

The original sum of reparations was 269 billion goldmarks =
US $3.7 trillion or £2.3 trillion

The Young Plan changed the sum to 112 billion marks
which is = to US$108 billion or £66.6 billion

It reduced the amount of reparations by 58%

Annual reparation payments of 2 billion gold marks

The money was to be paid over 59 years with the
equivalent of $473 million paid each year
+

It is successful for Stresemann

However, it did not bring peace and harmony to Germany

Why?

RESULTS OF THE YOUNG PLAN

The great depression led to a great rise in Germany and the
reparations came to an end

After a 3 year freeze Germany was supposed to make a final
payment

This payment was never made
