2016 TOURNAMENT NEWSLETTER
MUNCHKIN AND JUNIOR LEAGUES: Your season will come to a close with your regular season
games on Saturday, October 29. We do not have a tournament for your age group. We hope you
enjoyed your season!
TEAM PHOTOS: We distributed the photos at the regular season games on Saturday, October 29.
Any that were not picked up will be available at the concession stand until the end of the
tournament, then they will be taken to the admin office at 1904 South Park Road.
TEAM AWARDS: Our policy is not to give trophies or awards to the teams. Some teams decide
they must hand out trophies, and that is your decision. Please, if your team is handing out awards,
please do not do it at the flag football fields, as some players and teams will wonder why some are
getting trophies and they are not. Plan a picnic or pool outing at someone's home for this purpose.
TOURNAMENT SCHEDULE: On the back of this sheet is the schedule for the post-season
tournament for all Senior, Premier and Elite League teams. Please make sure you are on time so
that the games can start on time. Rain is sometimes a part of our tournament, so be prepared. IF
IT IS RAINING, GO TO THE FIELDS ANYWAY!!! WE WILL TRY AND GET THE SCHEDULE
DONE AS IT IS PRINTED IF AT ALL POSSIBLE. You may call our Event Info Line at 813-6594292 for a recorded message. Check before you leave the house. If any games must be
rescheduled, please check the City web site at www.plantcitygov.com and go to E-Services >
Document Center > + Parks & Rec > + Football > Youth Flag Football or call the Event Info Line at
813-659-4292 for the make-up date and time which should be posted by noon the next day.
SPECTATOR SEATING: Please remember - the area where the team benches are located is for
players only. All spectators should be seated on the opposite side of the field in and around the
bleachers. This provides a more manageable situation for everyone. Thanks!
ATTITUDES: Every tournament time, the pressures to win tend to get the best of some people,
and if they could look at a video of their actions a month later, they would be embarrassed to tears.
We understand it becomes a one-game season in the tournament, and that is enough pressure for
the players. They will do their best naturally, and the added pressure from the parents and
spectators is not necessary, nor is it helpful. Please restrain yourself and set the sportsmanlike
example for the players to copy. We are expecting a higher level of professionalism from the
players, spectators and game officials. Let's all do out part to make it an enjoyable tournament!
BASKETBALL REGISTRATION: Registration forms can be downloaded at:
http://www.plantcitygov.com/DocumentCenter/View/21536 or picked up at admin office located at
1904 South Park Road. Open to all boys ages 8-16 and girls ages 8-15 (age as of 3/1/17),
registration is during the first two weeks of November. Games are in January and February. Sign
up quickly!
CHRISTMAS TREE SEASON: The Optimist Club of Plant City puts many man-hours and funds
into our programs and their main fundraiser is the sale of Christmas trees each winter. Please be
sure to visit their tree lot location at the corner of Maki Road and West Alexander Street – in
front of the Plant City High School gymnasium. Buy your tree from the Optimist Club, as they
put their funds right back into our community and support our youth programs!
