Fact Sheet ORIUS® Fungicide An Oil in Water emulsion (EW) containing 250 g/litre tebuconazole ORIUS is a systemic fungicide for disease control in cereals, ryegrass seed crops, peas and onions. Tebuconazole is a triazole fungicide in the DMI group of EBI fungicides. ORIUS is absorbed throughout the foliage and controls fungii by disrupting cell wall development. It has both protectant and curative activity on a broad spectrum of diseases and is particularly active on Fusarium species, one of the ear disease complexes in cereals. Activity will last from 2-4 weeks depending on disease incidence and severity. It is translocated upwards in the plant and provides some protection to new growth. For maximum disease control and yield benefit, ORIUS should be applied at an early stage of disease development, before infection spreads to new crop growth. DIRECTIONS FOR USE: CEREALS and RYEGRASS SEED CROPS Use ORIUS alone early in the season on young plants when disease pressure is low. Tank mixtures with strobilurin group fungicides are recommended for susceptible cereal and ryegrass seed diseases (see Notes following this table). Crop Barley Disease Scald, Rate Critical Comments 750ml/Ha Apply at first appearance of disease. A further application may be necessary 3 to 4 weeks later if disease pressure remains high. 750ml/Ha Apply as a preventative spray at ear emergence especially during cool, moist conditions which favour spread of disease. Net Blotch, Spot Blotch, Ovularia Leaf Spot, Leaf Rust, Ear Disease Complex Wheat Glume Blotch Apply at first appearance of disease. A further application may be necessary 3 to 4 weeks later if disease pressure remains high Leaf Rust, Stripe Rust, Speckled Leaf Blotch Oats Crown Rust 750ml/Ha Apply as preventative spray on susceptible cultivars and at first sign of disease on less susceptible ones. Notes for CEREALS and RYEGRASS SEED CROPS: Symptoms of leaf and stem diseases in these crops generally take about 14-21 days after infection to become visible. Some, such as powdery mildew can take as little as 7-10 days. This means that fungal mycelia will have caused some crop tissue damage before visible signs of infection can be seen. If in doubt apply early as a protectant application before visible symptoms are evident. Ask local advisors which varieties are more susceptible to specific diseases and monitor these varieties more closely if problems have occurred in previous seasons. Apply ORIUS as early as possible. When tank mixing ORIUS with a strobilurin product, lower rates can be used if local experience indicates good control can be achieved. As a general rule use low rates early in the season when disease pressure is low, increasing the rates as disease pressure increases. Use full rates to cure established diseases under severe infection conditions but remember that considerable crop damage will have already occurred. ORIUS is the most effective triazole fungicide for fusarium ear blight control in wheat. Ryegrass stem rust is a very aggressive disease especially in turf cultivars. For stem rust always use full rates of ORIUS. ORIUS can be used alone early in the season with two applications 7-10 days apart, but strobilurins must be added at flag leaf and pre-flower stages for maximum control. A third application during seed-fill may be required for highly susceptible turf cultivars if severe infection conditions persist. Use full strobilurin rates for highly susceptible cultivars and lower rates for other varieties if local experience indicates adequate control. PEAS and ONIONS Crop Disease Rate Critical Comments Peas Powdery Mildew 250ml/Ha Apply as a preventative spray at flowering or at first sign of disease. If disease conditions persist, a further application 14 days later may be necessary. Onions White Rot 1.5 L/Ha Make the first application 6-8 weeks after sowing and follow with two further applications at 3-4 week intervals. Ground Application: Use a minimum of 200 litres of water per hectare. Aerial Application: Use a minimum of 50 litres of water per hectare. Apply in sufficient water to ensure more than 20 droplets/square centimetre on all leaves. As there are many factors involved in aerial application, contact a representative for detailed information. For onions use a minimum of 1000 litres of water per hectare. Use higher water volumes in dense or advanced crops especially under dry weather conditions. ORIUS may cause yellow leaf spotting to some durum wheat when applied after head emergence RAINFALL: Do not spray if rain is expected within 1 hours of spraying. COMPATIBILITY: Can be tanked mixed with most commonly used fungicides, herbicides and insecticides. CAUTION: ORIUS is toxic to aquatic organisms so a strategy to minimize spray drift should be used at all times when applying spray near aquatic environments. RESISTANCE: Resistance to this and other DMI fungicides could develop from repeated use. To minimise this risk use strictly in accordance with label recommendations. Apply a maximum of three DMI fungicides per crop, per season, at full recommended label rates.
