SPRING TIME in New York City
April 19-23, 2017
“Start spreading the news; I am leaving today; I want to be a part of it; New York, New York….”
I am headed back to New York again and taking another small (maximum 20) group with me. This will
be a local group with people you know. We’ll see most of the sites of New York you have always
wanted to see - Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island, 9/11 Memorial & Museum, One World Observatory,
NBC Studios, Central Park, Broadway Play and much more!!! Hope you can come, Janet
Note: This is a WALKING TOUR and requires much walking each day to take in the sights. We will
walk most of the trip as many of our stops are located outdoors; many tours are walking tours, etc. You
will be required to keep with the group as everything we see and do is on a ‘timed’ admission ticket.
April 19: We’ll board our early morning nonstop flight from Des Moines to New
York City. Our hotel is located in TIMES SQUARE.
We’ll have a bite to eat at Junior’s Restaurant (included) and then do a stroll of
this area to become acclimated. Later in the afternoon, we’ll board our motor
coach for our escorted evening tour. We tour by many of New York’s famous landmarks
including Empire State Building, Flat Iron Building, Union Square,
Little Italy, Chinatown, Brooklyn Bridge and more.
April 20: After breakfast at our hotel, we’ll head down to
BATTERY PARK where we will board our ferry to the
STATUE OF LIBERTY, a gift from France as a token of
goodwill. It was dedicated in 1886 and has stood as a
symbol of freedom, justice and opportunity every since.
We will disembark and you will have time to see the Statue up close. Then over to
ELLIS ISLAND to see where over 12 million of immigrants came into America from
1892 to 1924.
After a quick ferry ride back to Battery Park
and a stroll through the Financial District
&Wall Street, we’ll head to the 9/11
MEMORIAL which opened in 2011, the
9/11MUSEUM which opened in 2014 and the
ONE WORLD OBSERVATORY, now the
tallest skyscraper in the Western Hemisphere
and the 6th tallest in the world. It became the
tallest in New York City in 2012 when it
surpassed the Empire State Building. Its total height is 1,776 - the same number as
the year the Declaration of Independence was signed. It opened in 2014. We’ll spend time in the Museum and
go to the observatory on top of the One World Trade Center.
April 21: For you early risers, you might want to wander (on your own) to
Rockefeller Center at 6am and check out the TODAY SHOW that
starts at 7am (breakfast on your own). Details can be found at
www.visit.today.com.
For the rest of us we’ll have our breakfast at the hotel and join you at
Rockefeller Center where we will take in the NBC STUDIO TOUR
where you will learn about the TV production process. We’ll grab a quick lunch on the
Concourse at the Center and stroll over to RADIO CITY for their Stage Door Tour. Then off
to GRAND CENTRAL STATION and see this busy & historical station that was close to
seeing the wrecking ball when First Lady Jackie Kennedy stepped in and saved it in 1975.
Tonight we’ll take in a BROADWAY PLAY or MUSICAL.
April 22: After breakfast at the hotel, we head north to CENTRAL PARK where the Cherry Blossoms are in
bloom from Mid-end of April.
We’ll spend time at the METROPOLITAN MUSEUM OF ART, the
largest art museum in the United States. Its permanent collection
houses over 2 million works divided among 17 departments.. Then
further into the Park we go for a brief stroll and lunch (not included)
at The Loeb Boathouse Restaurant located on The Lake.
After another stroll in the Park we will be at the LINCOLN CENTER which is a 16
acres complex known to be home to the New York Philharmonic, the Metropolitan
Opera and the New York City Ballet. To end a great day and make it better we’ll take
a HORSE and CARRIAGE RIDE through the Park.
April 23: After breakfast we will check out of our rooms and head to the EMPIRE
STATE BUILDING where we will go to the observation deck. It took only 410
days to build the Empire State Building.
Then a quick stroll to the HIGH LINE PARK. The park is built on a disused elevated
railroad section formerly known as the West Side Line. It was been turned into a park
with construction starting in 2006 and opened to the public in 2009.
With time permitting, we’ll visit the CHELSEA MARKET that was created in the
former Nabisco Biscuit Company building where Oreo cookies were created and produced.
We have to be back to the hotel late afternoon for our transfer to the airport for our early evening
flight back to Des Moines.
Tired? Of course, you are! You didn’t come to New York to stay in your room, did you???
