archipelagooftheGalápagosIslands.DuringhislongjourneyontheHMSBeagle,Charles
Darwinstoppedontheseislandstomakeobservationspertaoningtothegeologyofthe
islands,butalsotocapturefloraandfaunaspecimen.Sincethen,thefinches(smallbirds,10
to20cmlong)oftheseislandshavebecomeaclassicofevolution.
