A Message from
Our President
Banking
with
a
community bank offers
many benefits compared
to a large bank or credit
union. Some may think all
banks are the same; as a
customer of Citizens State
Bank, I hope you disagree
and believe that we are
unlike any other financial
institution.
When you make a deposit at Citizens
State Bank, we are able to lend your money
to borrowers who are looking to purchase/
build a home or grow their local business.
With your funds, we are able to invest in our
communities, creating jobs and promoting
economic development. We are proud to be
a partner in our communities and helping local
families and small businesses alike.
With increased government regulations,
it is becoming more challenging to extend
credit to customers that do not fit certain
criteria. At Citizens State Bank, we consider
more than just a credit score when we review
loan applications. Unlike large banks, we
consider payment history, character, and other
factors which may not be reflected in a credit
score. As result, we continue to make loans
that many large banks would not consider,
doing everything possible to approve a loan.
Additionally, our local decision making process
allows us to respond to our customers’ needs
much faster than a large bank that takes weeks
or months to approve or deny a loan request.
Some say credit unions offer the same
benefits of a community bank, however, many
don’t know they don’t pay income taxes which
impacts everyone. Credit unions state they
are member owned, which allows the benefits
of not being taxed to be passed on to their
members. Why then don’t their rates and fees
to their members reflect this since our rates
and fees are often the same or less?
If you have deposit accounts at another
financial institution, now is a great time to
switch to Citizens State Bank. Our Personal
Bankers will make the transition easy and
stress-free. Take advantage of a free checking
account that’s truly free, and know that you are
banking with one of the top-rated community
banks in the country who will give you the
service you deserve.

Tips to Cut Debt & Boost Savings
If there is a time to get
financially fit it is now!
Strengthening personal finances
allows freedom to afford important items
and security for the future. Improve your
financial picture by replacing bad spending
habits with good ones, such as ending
wasteful spending, paying down debt and
putting money away into a savings account.
Check out the tips below to secure
your future and put your best foot forward
in the new year:
1. Get financially “fit” by setting realistic
and measurable money goals. Look for
ways to save money for the unknown
and prepare for the unexpected.Think
about establishing an emergency fund
to cover unexpected expenses, pay
off credit card debt or save for a new
home.
2. Put together a budget that will allow
you to meet your financial goals. Add
up your sources of income, document
how the funds will be spent, and make
sure some of those funds go towards
the financial goals you previously set.
3. To be financially successful, you must
track expenditures! Consumers who
know where their money goes each
month tend to not overspend. Tools
like Mint.com or Quicken can help
track your monthly expenses.
4. Know what to do when you’re unable
or unwilling to stick to your plan.
While shopping, leave credit cards
home and pay cash. Keep your frame
of mind on finances so you can make
wise choices about spending. Stay
away from situations that would allow
impulsive spending.
5. Talk with your tax consultant,
accountant or banker about your
finances. They are familiar with your
financial situation and can be a great
source of advice. Be honest about
your needs and goals. Educate yourself
with financial topics such as savings
and debt management.
At Citizens State Bank, we want you to
be successful and financially fit in 2014. Stop
in and see your personal banker today for
