Rules and Guidelines for Auditions and Performance
Bright Stars For Hope is a talent competition intended to showcase and recognize
outstanding amateur talent from our area. This is a Community For Hope event.
There is no cost to enter the competition. For those attending the event, it
consists of food, silent auction, and the featured performances of 10 acts. All
proceeds from the event are raised for Community For Hope. The event will take
place at the Oshkosh Convention Center. Local “celebrity judges”, contestant
pledges, and audience voting will determine first, second and third place finishes.
Prizes will be awarded for first place, $300, second place, $200 and third place
$100. There will also be a trophy for the most money raised, in the spirit of
philanthropy.
Talent and Performance Eligibility Requirements:
1. Performance and Eligibility. All performance types are welcome. Must be in
grades 6-12 only. There will be a total of 10 performances on the final night of
competition.
2. Amateurs only. Only amateurs are eligible to audition and compete. For this
competition we are inviting only individuals who DO NOT make their living (or
supplement their salary) by entertaining or teaching. We are looking for true
amateurs. If you receive any form of routine compensation for performing, we ask
that you do not participate. Questions again, may be referred to the Competition
Chairperson.
3. Maximum entries per act. Only one entry is allowed per act. For musical
performances, a small piano, or an electronic keyboard will be furnished for
auditions. A baby grand will be available for the final show.
4. Background Tracks and backup musicians. You are allowed to bring your own
musicians; no more than two instruments can be used to accompany a single
performance (this is designed to feature individuals or small ensembles.)
Background tracks will be allowed for dance, comedy, and other theatrical acts. If
you have any questions on what can or cannot be used, please consult with the
chair of this competition, by e-mailing [email protected] or
calling (920) 230-4840.
5. Artistic content guidelines. We are asking that all performers come prepared
with tasteful and respectable acts. This applies to the content of the lyrics and
the choice of wardrobe.
6. Judging and Performance Guidelines. Audition judges will have a variety of
experience and background and will rate the performances at auditions on a scale
of 1 to 10 in several categories (talent and ability, general audience appeal of the
act, creativity and artistic value, entertainment value.)
7. Prize package. The winner will receive the grand prize of $300 CASH on Feb. 24,
2017.
Application Process and Auditions:
8. Audition dates and Submitting Applications. Auditions for the competition will
be held as follows: Tues., November 8, 2016, 6:00-8:00 p.m.; Fri., November 11,
2016, 6:00-8:00 p.m. and Sat., November 12, 2016, 10:00 a.m.-Noon. Audition
site is Lourdes Academy, Oshkosh. Anyone auditioning only needs to attend one
audition. First come, first serve.
9. Accompanist and Performance Standard at Auditions. We will NOT have an
accompanist available for auditions, but you may bring your own if you would like.
You must perform your act as it would be presented if selected for the actual
show.
10.Auditions require two acts prepared. Each contestant should come to the
auditions with two acts prepared. For example, even though only one song might
be required to perform if selected for the actual show, the judges might ask a
contestant to perform another song (or portion of that song), of a faster or slower
tempo. This applies to all performances, not just vocalists.
11.5 minutes auditions. Auditions will be limited to 5 minutes of content, maximum.
Judges may interrupt the audition at any time. Finalists will be asked to prepare a
single act, 3 minutes or less for the final show. Audition selections should be
“performance-ready”, as if it was the night of the final show. THIS INCLUDES
WARDROBE!
12.Video-taped auditions and alternate selection. Auditions may be videotaped for
two reasons. First, to help assist judges in the decision of which acts will move on
to compete in the final show and secondly, a few acts may advance through an
alternate selection process.
Timeline for selection of finalists:
We will make every effort possible to notify all those who
audition, of their status, as a finalist, no later than Sunday,
November 13, 2016. We reserve the right to request “callbacks” if needed.
