The selected book for 2009 is Rope Walk by Carrie Brown. Two special events are planned for Perry All Iowa Reads participants this year. The first event is a book discussion with guest facilitator Michael Morain of the Des Moines Register. The discussion is scheduled for 7:00-8:00 p.m., on Tuesday, October 13, in the library Community Room. Everyone is invited to join us for this discussion, but please preregister at the circulation desk. Light refreshments will be served. There are several copies of Rope Walk available to borrow from the library, or you may bring your own. The All Iowa Read discussions have been popular events at the library since 2003. Ms. Brown’s speaking appearance is in association with the Des Moines Public Library’s AVID (Authors Visiting in Des Moines) series. This event is Friday, October 23, from 5:00-9:30 p.m., and the bus will leave promptly at 5:00! For $15, you receive a paperback copy of the book, a round-trip bus ride from Perry Library to Sheslow Auditorium on the Drake University campus, and a box lunch. Sign-up for this event is already underway and space is limited! To reserve your spot, come in to the library, pay your fee, and receive your book and “ticket” to OCTOBER 2009 ride. This event is possible through the generous sponsorship of the Friends of the Perry Public Library, Hometown Perry, Iowa (in memory of Emil K. Natalle), and Perry Hy-Vee.
