October All Iowa Reads Events
The Perry Library is pleased to sponsor 2009 All
Iowa Reads events during the month of October. The
selected book for 2009 is Rope Walk by Carrie
Brown. Two special events are planned for Perry All
Iowa Reads participants this year.
The first event is a book discussion with
guest facilitator Michael Morain of the Des
Moines Register. The discussion is scheduled
for 7:00-8:00 p.m., on Tuesday, October
13, in the library Community Room. Everyone is
invited to join us for this discussion, but please preregister at the circulation desk. Light refreshments
will be served. There are several copies of Rope Walk
available to borrow from the library, or you may
bring your own. The All Iowa Read discussions have
been popular events at the library since 2003.
Previous selected titles are:
Digging to America by Anne Tyler
Splendid Solution: Jonas Salk and the Conquest of
Polio by Jeffrey Kluger
Gilead by Marilynne Robinson
The Master Butchers Singing Club by Louise Erdrich
Niagara Falls All Over Again by Elizabeth McCracken
Peace Like a River by Leif Enger
Another great All Iowa Reads opportunity
for Perry area readers this October is a
special bus trip to hear author Carrie Brown speak.
Ms. Brown’s speaking appearance is in association
with the Des Moines Public Library’s AVID (Authors
Visiting in Des Moines) series. This event is Friday,
October 23, from 5:00-9:30 p.m., and the bus will
leave promptly at 5:00! For $15, you receive a
paperback copy of the book, a round-trip bus ride
from Perry Library to Sheslow Auditorium on the
Drake University campus, and a box lunch. Sign-up
for this event is already underway and space is
limited! To reserve your spot, come in to the library,
pay your fee, and receive your book and “ticket” to
