Grandparents
Day
21 and 22 January
Grandparents have always acted a unique role in educating their grandchildren. They are
fully understanding and patience, make the world a warmer and safer. They support in difficult
times, know the advice on any trouble and give comfort of their smile. It's hard not to appreciate
them kindness. Approaching a special day in which we can express our gratitude for their hard work
and dedication, for all that we get from them every day – this is a day Grandma and Grandpa. It is
worth prepare something special for them, because it is an opportunity to thank for all the goods
that we receive from them.1
Grandmother's Day
Grandmother's Day tradition was started nearly 50 years ago in 1964, when the mention of
this celebration the first time appeared in the Polish press. First, only in the weekly "Women and
Life", then in the "Express, Poznan," describes the symbolic tradition of this holidays.2
Our grandmothers have their feast, which we celebrate in Poland on January 21. This is a special day
for all grandmothers, but also for grandchildren, who have the opportunity to thank them for all the
benefits, which is a lot. Starting from concern and care for a grandchildren, the good words and love
of relatives, inculcation of moral principles, faith formation, transfer of family history, setting an
example of duty and hard work. They are always with us, in every sorrow have a solution. It is worth
put every effort to grandmothers felt that this day is really special.3
Grandfather's Day
In Poland, Grandfather's Day falls on 22 January, just after Grandma's Day, which was
established a few years earlier. This is a great occasion for grandparents to show how they are
important for us and how much we appreciate their help and presence. According to the annual
tradition acknowledges their wishes and we give a gifts that they feel honored, because what for the
grandfather could be a better gift, than a handmade card from a grandchild or other evidence of
memory from older kids.
Grandparents Day is celebrated in Poland recently and is equivalent to the U.S. National
Grandparents Day (National Day Grandparents). This festival falls in the United States always on the
first Sunday in October, but is a little different than in the Polish tradition . We have two days holiday
grandparents (two separate feast) , in the United States the grandparents celebrate one day (jointly
celebrated the feast) , but it is quite pompously. However, it is attached to this feast a very high
priority, as in Poland.4

Grandpa on this special day should be feel honored and appreciated, he should know that his
grandchildren are grateful for every moment spent with him. His wisdom and experience helps in
many moments of our lives. He is the support the family, he knows the most a remarkable stories, we
love him very much - as he us, because in his day - Grandparents Day, we should give him great
pleasure and surprise, for which he fully deserves. Let's give him so unusual moments, so that this
day has always remained in his memory.5
Thanks for grandparents
In the schools, the churches held a occasional event. Not forgotten about the grandparents
who living in nursing homes. Kindergarten arrange a presentation, as well as elementary school
students. Mature young people adopt or help arrange for the needy grandparents of the area. Also,
no one forgets about bestow their grandparents individually. The greatest joy for grandparents is the
fact that we remember them on this day. Visits in this day is for them really touching, they feel
appreciated and loved. Adults make wishes, hand out small gifts or flowers, and all this with a sincere
heart. Then everyone sit at the common tea to enjoy the moments with whole family. Well as
children have gifts for loved grandparents. There is no greater joy than a hand-made gift , like: rave,
bouquets of small flowers, bookmark, learned rhymes, etc. The possibilities for the implementation
of a gift is a lot, but the effect is only one, unique: tears of emotion and a smile on the faces of
grandparents.6
