Dear Parents, carers and families,
It is truly a privilege and an honour to be writing to you as the founder Principal of the 'Heath Lane Academy'. It was
wonderful to see so many parents, families and former pupils attend the Principal's presentation last month to hear
about the many exciting opportunities for not just our pupils but also for the local community in striving to 'Be The
Best'.
A central point for information will be the 'Heath Lane Academy' website. The address for this

is http://www.heathlane.academy. The site will be live from Monday 9 May 2016. Sections are still under
construction, however we welcome your thoughts, feedback and comments as to what you would like to read about
and see on our website.
After careful discussion and consideration with the Leadership team, parents and pupils it has been decided that the

official starting date for 'Heath Lane Academy' will be on Wednesday 31 August. All pupils will be expected to arrive
for 8.30am in full uniform and be prepared and ready to start an exciting learning journey to equip them for both now
and for the future. You will be pleased to hear that our term dates will remain as Leicestershire County Council dates

Supporting and ensuring that our younger pupils feel well equipped and prepared for the start of the new academic
year, we have planned the following events and activities:











Joint production of 'Loserville' - Successful musical performed by Heathfield Academy, WBA and St Martins
pupils to name a few
Design and name the Yr 7 & Yr 8 Quad area competition
Designated Yr 7 & Yr 8 eating and recreational areas
Yr 11 Executive area for eating and recreational
Uniform fitting for every pupil ( Please contact your child's school if you have any questions regarding this )
Transition visits to the 'Heath Lane Academy' site organised through Heathfield Academy - These may be in
small selective groups and or whole year groups
You are welcome to visit the 'Heath Lane Academy' at any time without making an appointment, just turn up
and we will show you around. You may even see your photograph displayed on our walls.

Uniform sales and collection dates from August 25 until August 30 ( Except the bank holiday ) at the Heath
Lane Academy – further details will follow.
Uniform update:
Thank you for your thoughts and ideas regarding the uniform for the 'Heath Lane Academy'. After careful
consideration and consultation with pupils, families, staff and the community we have chosen 'Schoolwear Centre'
details attached. Heath Lane Academy will also provide an 'upcycling' uniform swop shop at the Academy. This will
enable you to swop, next to new used items with very little or no charge at all. A small number of uniform items will
also be available for you to buy on site. Samples of the uniform will be available for veiwing at William Bradford

Academy and Heathfield from Monday 9 May 2016 in both Reception areas.
The uniform will consist of:







Black blazer with a blue trim around the collar ( Boy/Girl/Unisex) fitting/styles
Black tailored trousers ( Not skinny fitted)
Straight or pleated HLA logo skirt ( 2 designs available) – only logo skirts are allowed
White shirt or blouse
HLA Tie
Black socks or tights
Black leather shoes (No leather Vans/Converse or other trainers)
A 'Heath Lane Academy' PE Kit will be available, please see our website for further details. Current William Bradford
Academy and Heathfield PE kit will also be allowed to be worn for the first year.
It is with great pleasure that we can announce that the Midlands Academies Trust have supported the launch of
'Heath Lane Academy' in providing every pupil with a fitted blazer, badge and tie. This will be provided free of charge
to support our students in 'Being the Best' and looking the 'Best'. It is intended that the ties will be awarded at the

celebration event on Tuesday 12 July. The blazers will be provided along with other ordered items from Thursday
th
25 August. If you wish for your uniform orders to be delivered please do not hesitate to email Kirsty Spendley,

To ensure that every pupil feels comfortable and confident in their new blazers we are organising fittings on the
following dates:

Friday 6 May - Heathfield Academy pupils 10am until 3pm in the Library. Please contact Mrs D Smith if you
have any questions or concerns.

Monday 9 May - William Bradford Academy pupils from 9am until 10am in the lecture theatre. If you have

All safeguarding procedures will be adhered to.
Each pupil will be offered a number of blazers to try on. Pupils will be offered to try on a skirt. These can either be
measured by the waist or they will be offered a private changing space to use.
Leadership update:
For those of you who attended the Principal's presentation you will be aware that we are very proud to announce that
Mrs Deb Smith and Mr Colin Johnston will be the Vice Principal's for the Heath Lane Academy. I am very much
looking forward to working with them to secure 'Outstanding' education and opportunities for our pupils and the local
community. Assistant Principal's Mr Paul McPherson, Miss Tracey Pratt and Mr Mark Sidaway will also form part of
the Leadership team.
