Registration Registration for the Winter Camporee is required by January 10, 2013 for all attendees. Troops can register at http://camporee.bsatroop700.com by creating a login and registering each Scout and Adult attendee. Please pre‐register your unit by November 30 by creating your login and entering an estimated number of Youth and Adults. Please be realistic… plans will be made according to this estimate! A full name of all attending is a requirement by our NRA instructors, especially due to the use of firearms and the cost of ammunition. The online registration system will calculate the total due for your unit. Note: Multiple adults can create a username and access all information for their unit. If you forget your password, just create a new username and pick up where you left off. All payments should be made to the Atlanta Area Council by January 25. Registrations after January 10 will require proof that the scout registered just crossed over into a Troop or just transferred into a unit or be subject to a $5 late fee per Scout/Adult – NO EXCEPTIONS. Units will be able to swap names until January 30, but cannot add or remove participants. Cost prior to January 10: $25 per person. Cost after January 10: $30 per person. All meals are included! 2. Check‐in Units should check in at our registration area no later than 8:30PM on Friday. Check in will open at 6PM. Campsites will be assigned at time of check‐in based on the number of participants registered. NO WALK IN PARTICIPANTS WILL BE ALLOWED! Please do not make us turn away your Scout because he was not registered. Only the Scoutmaster and the Senior Patrol Leader or Crew Leader should be present at check‐in. All medical forms and permission slips must be presented for review for each attendee. Schedule of events will be provided at this time. Departure information must be declared at check‐in. 3. FridaynightCrackerBarrel All Adult leaders and Senior Patrol leaders are invited to the Friday night Cracker Barrel. Location will be provided upon check‐in. Mountain Lake District Winter Camporee 2013 – Hosted by Troop 700 www.bsatroop700.com Page3 4. Meals All meals will be provided by the camporee staff. Saturday hot meals include: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner. Sunday morning breakfast will consist of a hot item and cold items. Units leaders are responsible for insuring that Scouts with food allergies receive alternate menu items available in the kitchen. 5. Activities All activities will be on Saturday and will begin with Flags at 8AM. Units should attend the morning flag ceremony in full Class‐A uniform. Time will be given to change into an activity uniform (Class B) prior to beginning the day’s activities. Units will be assigned an itinerary for each patrol that is registered. If patrols are small in size, the activity committee may combine patrols to ensure effective use of resources at events. Itinerary cards are to be kept by the patrol leader and presented at each station or event for verification. This itinerary will be “branded” at each event only if the patrol attended at the designated time. Patrols not following the itinerary will not be allowed to spend their “GOLD” at the trading post until they have returned to their schedule. Patrols should build (prior to the camporee) a Klondike sled to carry their patrol gear between events. There are many different plans online. Use your favorite search engine to search for Klondike Derby sled design. Make sure that you build your sleds with removable wheels! Patrols should “Be Prepared” with all necessary items needed for any Tenderfoot – First Class rank requirement. Sleds should be presented prior to morning Flags for entry into the Sled competition. Sleds will be judged on creativity and durability of design, as well as function. Sleds engineered or built by adults are easily recognized and will be severely penalized or could be disqualified. Adults are encouraged to assist the Patrols in building their sleds, but the bulk of the work should be done by the boys. By entering the contest, each scout will be asked on their honor if the sled was built mostly by the boys. The following is a list of activity stations or events that will be offered: Black Powder rifle Shooting Archery Lumberjack Firearm Safety Shelter building Klondike first‐aid Sledding / sled races Firearm Cleaning Fire building with cooking challenge Plus much more! Mountain Lake District Winter Camporee 2013 – Hosted by Troop 700 www.bsatroop700.com Page4 All patrols will be required to attend a Firearm safety session prior to handling ANY firearm. Units can make arrangements to have the safety portion conducted at a meeting prior to the camporee. We only need a few units to participate in the early safety briefing. This will be scheduled on a first come first served basis and can be request by sending an email to [email protected] . Each Troop will be required to offer up one adult leader to participate in the Scoutmaster Shoot. Units not participating will NOT be allowed to spend any “GOLD” at the trading post. 6. MeritBadges/NRABasicRifleorShotgunCertification Certain requirements for Rifle, Wilderness Survival or Archery merit badges may be met by each boy who actively participates in each activity. Because of this, the leaders running each station will be paying extra attention to participation and knowledge retention. If the patrol demonstrates that they have grasped the concepts required at the event to the level required by the Merit Badge, they will add a second “brand” to the itinerary card. Your Troop can (at your discretion) use this information to record partial progress toward the merit badge requirement impacted. At no point should it be implied that any certification is being provided during this camporee. For those interested in a NRA Basic Rifle or NRA Basic Shotgun certification, you may send an email to [email protected] for class registration information. Classes are available at an extremely reduced price for Scouts! 7. Webelos All Webelos Scouts are welcome to participate on Saturday. Please register under your Pack and consider your den as a patrol. Cost for Webelos will be $20 per person and will include Saturday meals, all activities and a patch! Webelos will not be allowed to shoot black powder rifles. This is something exciting that will need to wait until Boy Scouting! 8. SundayMorning Immediately following breakfast on Sunday, All Scouts will participate in a worship service. After the service, units should return to their campsite to begin check‐out procedures. All units should checkout of camp by 9am. Check‐out procedures will be provided at check‐in. Patches will be issued upon proper check‐out procedure being followed. Mountain Lake District Winter Camporee 2013 – Hosted by Troop 700 www.bsatroop700.com Page5 9. TradingPost During the Saturday events, we will have a trading post open for the participants to spend their “GOLD”. We will have soft drinks, candy bars, nachos and other treats available for purchase with both GOLD and cash. For cash purchases, most items are $.50 or $1.00. In order for participants to spend their “GOLD”, they will need to show their patrol itinerary to verify that they have been participating in all scheduled events. If they are missing the brand for the session just prior to visiting the trading post, they will be denied a purchase using “GOLD” until they attend the next scheduled session. Cash purchases are always welcome. 10. Winterweather In the event of inclement weather, units will be notified of any changes using the contact information received during online registration. Units should spend adequate meeting time preparing theirs Scouts for camping during winter weather. Snow and ice may cancel this event, however temperatures will not. BE PREPARED!! 11. GeneralRules A spirit of Scouting courtesy and brotherhood must prevail during the entire Camporee if it is to be a success. At the Camporee, as always, everyone's conduct is expected to be in accordance with the Scout Oath, the Scout Law, and the Outdoor Code. Everyone is asked to use "Leave No Trace” principles. This is the general framework around which this Camporee will be operated. Remember to ask permission before entering another Troop's campsite. Do not bring any electronic equipment (radios, games, etc.), sheath knives, fireworks, alcoholic beverages, and firearms. Do not dig around your tents. We need to leave the camp in better shape than it was Friday morning. There will be Reveille and Taps each morning and evening. Quiet hours will be enforced between these times. Respect your neighbors; respect the need for the youth to obtain a full 8 hours of sleep each night. All units must maintain two‐ deep leadership. The Buddy System must be maintained at all times. Weather at this time of year is very unpredictable. Be Prepared. Bring tents, rain gear, dining flies and ground cloths. The Camporee will not be called off because of rain. Mountain Lake District Winter Camporee 2013 – Hosted by Troop 700 www.bsatroop700.com Page6 12. WaterDanger There is a water danger in various parts of the camp. Any scout found engaging in inappropriate behavior (playing in the water, wading, throwing objects into the water) near any of the open bodies of water will be asked to leave the Camporee. These areas will be communicated to the troop leaders at the Unit Leader / SPL meeting on Friday night. 13. Location The 2013 Klondike Derby/Winter Camporee will be held at Camp Sidney Dew, located between Calhoun and Dalton.
