PTA MEETING This Thursday 27th February 7pm in the Staffroom.
Dear Parents
Thanks everyone, for the very positive response to our proposed Recipe Book. We so appreciate the surveys coming back, as
it is the only way we can really measure your support. This is going to be something we can continue to print- even for Ag
Day. Each class has prepared the brief for its role, which is on the back of this Newsletter. We hope to have the Book ready
before the end of this term. We shall keep you posted on progress.
If anyone would have time at home to do some typing for Rooms 5 and 8 that would be appreciated. The recipe could then be
emailed into us. The other children are old enough to do their own formatting. Let us know if you could help with this.
We have had pre-orders for 58 books!!
We think it could be a good option to have it professionally bound and printed, so we will seek some sponsorship for that. If
anyone would like to do that and have that acknowledged in the book, let me know. I am currently seeking prices for the
printing. Also anyone who would like to have a space inside to advertise the business, that’s also very welcome.
The teachers, and myself, will be here from 3-5pm tomorrow night to meet informally with any parents who wish to pop in. If
you have any concerns please don’t hesitate to come in at any stage and we can arrange for a meeting with the class teacher.
Best to get on top of any issues quickly. Hopefully all our children are feeling happy. If they are not, we need to know urgently.
Once the children have had a few weeks in the classes and made friends, and relate to the teacher’s teaching style, I will be
having my first meeting with the selected student consultants. I am looking forward to listening to their views about their daily
activities in class.
The selection process for Student Council is underway. Class Representatives will be announced soon.
Our learning support programme is now in place in each classroom. Teams are planning very specifically for the children’s
needs. Measurable goals are set and reviews will be weekly at team meetings. Please be sure to ask the teachers how you
can best support your child at home.
We now have ready, willing and able, our wonderful Student Support Volunteers. These students volunteer their morning tea
and lunch times, to provide support for students, for a variety of reasons. We are very grateful for their kind support of fellow
students. Since we have had it in place, these students have made a significant difference for many children.
They are definitely Ohau Stars!

Recipe Book—PUT THIS ON THE FRIDGE
Please note that while classes have taken a particular area to format and present, they can take
recipes from anyone, in any area of the school. Be sure to put your name on the recipe and whether or
not it has some history with the family- e.g if it was great grandma’s favourite, or if it is an ethnic dish,
give us a sentence about its origins. We will put this at the bottom.
Classes are ready now to take your recipes, so please send them in. Make sure you have your name
on the Recipe. Don’t worry if they are handwritten- they all have to be formatted anyway.
Room 1-Scrumptious Cakes and Delectable Baking
We are collecting recipes from around the school that create scrumptious cakes and all other
delectable delights made in the kitchen. These can be used for special occasions or to provide a treat
in those daily lunchboxes.
Room 2-Cultural Foods
As Room 2 explores communities from around the world we are learning that foods are a way that
different cultures express their values and their way of living. Ohau is fortunate to have a diverse range
of cultural groups who continue to maintain who they are by preparing foods based upon their
traditional ones. We would be privileged to celebrate your cultural foods in our section of the recipe
book.
Room 3-Delicious Desserts
We are managing the Dessert section. If you have any home favourites, please ensure that you hand
them in to one of the students, who will be editing for Room 3.. CJ Gilligan, Jessica Matangi, Georgia
Bennik and Maeve Weekly. We accept all dessert recipes and will be happy to test try those willing to
offer their samples!!
Room 4- Meats, Condiments and Preserves
We are looking forward to publishing recipes for meat dishes-beef, chicken, pork, venison, lamb,
mutton etc Plus we would love to have recipes for pickles, relishes, chutneys. We will also include in
our section preserves including jams, fruits and sauces.
Room 5-Freedom Foods
We plan to present foods that give you the freedom to enjoy life allergy free. We would love to have
your delicious gluten free, dairy free, soy free, nut free, or other “free” recipes to share
Room 6. Luscious Lunches, Snacks and Nibbles.
We would like all your tasty, never fail, easy to prepare, delicious recipes which you enjoy creating and
that your guests enjoy eating, for lunches or snacks.
They may be pies, kedgerees, sandwiches, finger food or some other treat that is always well received
and enjoyed by all
Room 7-Let’s Celebrate
We would like all those fabulous recipes that you enjoy and that help to make Christmas Day, Birthdays
and other celebrations so special. These can include recipes for any courses…nibbles, entrees, mains
(meats and vegetables), desserts, cakes, biscuits and home- made drinks suitable for children.
Room 8-Super One Pot Meals:
We are after your super recipes that are no-stress, no mess, and only require you to toss all your
ingredients into one pot! Yes, One Pot Meals – hot pots, curries, pastas and stir fries.
