September 2016
From our Pres ident
D ebbie Murray
Dear GCD Members,
I am truly honored to be writing
my first letter to you as your President. I
want to thank Karen, Susie, Annie, the entire
hospitality committee and the provisionals
who did an amazing job with the Annual
Meeting at Karen Gregorich's lovely home
and garden.
I also want to thank all the committee heads who met in June
to plan the program for the year. They have all worked really
hard planning for an exciting year filled with competitions and
workshops. The focus of many of the disciplines will be "Birds,
Bees and Butterflies". Please look for programs and competitions
supporting that theme throughout the year. I would like to thank
Debby McLean and Pam Clark for hosting the Monarch
Butterfly workshop this summer. Several members successfully
raised and launched beautiful Monarchs into the world, so
amazing to see!
I believe that all the members will benefit from the thoughtful
and creative speakers that Tracy Drippé has arranged for the

Little Compton Garden Tour
Margaret Smith set a new
standard for visiting gardens! We
traveled in style in a mini bus to
Little Compton, Rhode Island on
Saturday, June 18th. Little
Compton is a very small coastal
New England town, incorporated
in 1682 by settlers from the Massachusetts' Plymouth
Colony. It is located on the peninsula adjacent to Newport,
Rhode Island. We began with a beautiful and delicious
sunrise breakfast at her home and continued with specially
prepared fresh fruit treats on the ride up. Once we arrived
in Little Compton, we toured several of the gardens, met at
Kathy Haire's Little Compton home for a lunch graciously
hosted by Kathy and Marte Small, then continued on our
tour of the remaining gardens. We were wined and dined
all the way home with chilled bottles of white wine and
many passed hors d'ouevres. We all became better
friends which made the outing extra special. Many, many
thanks to Margaret for her careful planning and attention to
every detail to make the summer day, touring beautiful
seaside gardens, a wonderfully, memorable experience for
all of us!
