drawing. Its title tells you
what the drawing shows.

These words
are part of a
diagram or a
photo. They
point out
important parts
of the diagram
or photo.
TEXT OR MAIN
TEXT: These are
the words on a page
that describe the main
ideas of the book.
Main text is usually
smaller than chapter
titles or headings.
Seeds are parts of plants.

HEADINGS:
These words separate

Glossary
roots – the parts of a plant that
bring in water and keep a
plant in the ground
seeds – the plant parts that
can make new plants
DEFINITION
soil – the dirt in which plants
grow
GLOSSARY: This is
a list of important new
words that you have
learned by reading the
book. Each glossary word
is in bold letters. After the
bold word is the meaning,
or definition, of the word.

stem – the part of a plant that
holds up the plant
