With abundant natural resources, a well-educated population, and export-orientated economy,
Argentina is one of the largest and fastest growing economies in Latin America. It is a major
producer of agricultural produce, beef, and seafood and is the fifth largest wine producer globally.
As a member of Mercosur, South America’s leading trade bloc, Argentina manufactures and
exports sophisticated technologies, such as wind turbines, nuclear reactors, and satellites. It is
also a mineral rich country that supplies mineral commodities and raw materials to the world. The
strong automobile industry produces 1 million units annually and is growing on a par with Brazil.
Investors continue to see strong potential in the country, especially with the economy growing at
5.7% for the first three quarters of 2013. However, the country continues to face internal and
external economic challenges, such as high inflation and unemployment.
To discuss what opportunities exist for Hong Kong businesses in Argentina, the Chamber’s
Americas Committee has invited Gustavo Fazzari, Consul General of Argentina, to update
members on the latest developments in the country. In addition, Guillermo Boccardo, Managing
Director of Cheni Global, and an expert on investing in Argentina will share their perspectives and
experiences on investing and doing business in Argentina.
Following their presentation, members will be able to enjoy some Argentine wines to learn why the
country has become such a top quality wine producer in the world.
