February 19, 2016 Location: Houston, Texas Educational Programs Intern Space Center Houston, owned and operated by the non-profit Manned Space Flight Education Foundation, Inc., is the official visitor center of NASA Johnson Space Center. The center features more than 400 space artifacts, attractions and theaters related to the exciting future and remarkable past of America’s human space-flight program. Currently, we are seeking an Educational Programs Intern to support its award-winning educational programs and participate in the development of highly-interactive programs in science, technology, engineering and math. Under the supervision of the Education Director, the Intern will receive intensive training in informal education and work with many professions to provide engaging programming based on national science standards. The Educational Programs Intern will work together with the Education Department to inspire all generations through the wonders of space exploration. The Intern will gain valuable knowledge in a nonprofit business and educationally-focused museum environment, develop an understanding of informal educational programs and experience working with diverse audiences including students and educators from all over the world. The Intern will acquire program development skills while working with the Education Director to design and implement a new robotics program to serve students visiting Space Center Houston. This role will gain a greater awareness about Space Center Houston’s interactive science-based exhibits, educational programs and the rich history of America’s space program and the exciting future of space exploration. POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES: Collaborate with the Education Director to develop a robust robotics program. Collaborate with education staff to enhance and update current education programs with relevant NASA content Develop educational programs related to the one-of-a-kind exhibit complex, Independence Plaza, featuring the first shuttle carrier aircraft, NASA 905, and the highfidelity shuttle replica Independence. Participate in meetings and planning sessions for current and future Space Center Houston projects. Other duties as assigned Space Center Houston is an Equal Opportunity Employer POSITION QUALIFICATIONS Undergraduate college student returning to college as a full-time (12 credit hours) junior or senior in the fall of 2016. (Must be able to provide written enrollment verification from college or university confirming enrollment status.) Preferred major in the field of education, engineering, science or a related field. Desire to educate the public about the past, present and future of the space program and space exploration Desire to learn about informal museum education. An appreciation for and enthusiasm for working with children. A creative team player with a willingness to work hard and a commitment to quality. Strong written and verbal communication skills Public speaking experience preferred. Must be independent, reliable, and able to work with little supervision; a self-starter. Computer skills using Microsoft Office Products with the ability to learn new programs/systems. Ability to multi-task. Excellent organization skills. The internship is 8 consecutive weeks between May 23, 2016 and August 19, 2016. Typical work schedule will be 9:00 am-5:00 pm, Monday-Friday.
