November 28. 2014 Bulldog Barker Delia School Box 236 Delia, AB T0J OWO Phone: (403)-364-3777 Fax: (403)-364-3805 Principal: Mr. Darryl Hern @deliabulldogs Can it actually be only a month until Christmas? November brought many great events at Delia including our first reporting period and first round of parent-teacher interviews. Our teachers work hard to continually assess how students are doing in mastering the outcomes of each class, and to help students achieve this mastery. If you have questions or concerns, please feel free to contact your child’s teacher. Our sports programs continue to do well. Girls volleyball wrapped up before the Fall Break. The teams had a good season, with both teams making their zone championships. We look forward to the promise that next season holds. We had a great time holding a pep rally for them before they went off to zones. Basketball has started up for the year with teams at the junior boys and junior girls level. As well, our senior high girls are joining with Morrin School so that they are able to have the opportunity to play as well. Good luck to all the teams this year. On November 5, grade 9 students participated in Take Your Kid to Work Day, which is an opportunity for students to “job shadow” a relative for a day. And of course we had our yearly fall break, which was a great chance to rest and recuperate (or to go on hunting trips). Finally, the Community of Delia collected and packed 61 Operation Christmas Child Shoeboxes for Samaritan’s Purse. Thank you to everyone who donated and the Grade 5/6s who packed boxes. We are looking forward to the next month before Christmas, with our Christmas Concert on December 18. This year, we are trying something new in holding our fall Awards Ceremony in conjunction with the Christmas Concert. This will hopefully allow grads to be home from school to participate in the ceremony. On the last day before the break, Students’ Union is organizing our Winter Festival. We are looking forward to the afternoon celebration. As the weather is turning colder (and probably more snowy), please be sure your children are coming prepared with proper clothing and footwear for the weather. Finally, if your student is going to be away or has to leave early for an appointment or illness, please remember that parental contact is required for all students from K-12. Students need to sign out at the office and we need either a signed note or phone call from a parent or for the parent to come in and sign the student out. There have been a few occasions where secondary students have simply left and the office was not informed where they were. Have a great December everyone, and enjoy the winter weather. Have a great month and a restful break. Darryl Hern Principal The volleyball pep rally took place on the 7th and the Junior Team played the Senior Team . Super hero day was on 19th of November as students and teachers participated in dressing up as their favourite superhero. Delia school made a donation to the legion for Remembrance Day for the poppies. The Students’ Union is very busy with planning the Winter Fest on December 19th at 1 pm. The Winter Fest will include curling games, skating, hockey game, snow painting and snowshoes, hay rides and bonfire. On December 1st the Students’ union will be holding our annual food drive. They encourage every class room to raise 50 nonperishable food items. The food drive will wrap up on 17th. There will be a prize for the group that collects the most items. Striking a mighty pose on Super Hero day. The past few months have flown by in Kindergarten and December has snuck up on us once again! In October we carved pumpkins with our 5/6 Buddies so thank you to them and all the parent volunteers for helping! Crumble the cake into fine crumbs using your hands or in a food processor. Put into a bowl. In another bowl, beat together the butter and icing sugar until creamy. 2. Melt the plain chocolate in the microwave or in a bowl over a pan of barely simmering water. Add the melted chocolate to the butter mixture and combine well. Leave to set for about 20 minutes and then using black icing, pipe on eyes and a mouth. Fun Stuff Try to not think about penguins (Amusement Potential: 1-5 minutes) This is especially hard, because by trying too much, you remember what you were trying to avoid thinking of. If you try too little, you end up thinking about penguins anyway. Blow up a balloon and ask someone to pop it. When they try to start screaming. Repeat the same word over and over until it loses its meaning (Amusement Potential: 1-3 minutes) Pick a random word out of a magazine and say it aloud to yourself until it becomes a meaningless set of noises. Q. What goes “oh, oh, oh”? A. Santa walking backwards! What does Santa suffer from if he gets stuck in a chimney? Claustrophobia!
