Oral Presentation - Year 10
English - St Leonard's College
You are required to prepare an oral presentation to be delivered to
your class. You are required to speak for 3 minutes. You should use
only notes and will lose marks if you read your presentation. You will
need to spend time compiling your presentation and rehearsing. Please
go to the link
http://learn.stleonards.vic.edu.au/yr10english/assessment-criteriasheets-2/ and look at the oral presentation assessment rubric for the
marking criteria. You have three options to choose from…you only
have to do ONE!
Option A
1. Select a text that highlights, examines, reveals or challenges prejudice. Your
chosen text could be a song, photograph, poem, cartoon, advertisement, editorial
article or a piece of artwork. Share your chosen piece with your teacher before you
start preparing your presentation.
2.Identify the type of prejudice the text investigates or demonstrates; eg. racism,
sexism, homophobia or prejudice against religion. Has it been created by a person
who is prejudiced in some way? Or does the text highlight prejudice in a way that
reveals a desire to challenge prejudice?
3. What do you see as the cause of this prejudice? Hatred? Fear? Populism?
Ignorance? Inheritance?
4. How does the text make us feel as an audience? What is the author/artist's
intention? How does the intention differ from the response?
5.What is the message in the text? Is it one of encouragement? Is it insulting?
Supportive? Is it propaganda?
6. Does the text investigate or use stereotypes as part of the way it conveys its
message?
7. What could be seen as the possible consequence or intended outcome of the
message? Is it designed to make the audience fearful? More understanding? More
self -aware?
Option B
1. Step inside a character from the film To Kill A Mockingbird.
2.Create and present a monologue from their perspective. You may choose a
particular moment in the film or looking back after some time has past.
