In our Bethany community, we know of 3 families so far, who have been directly impacted by an LLS cancer; The Gorman family’s daughter, Mrs. Varadi’s son-‐in-‐law, and Mrs. Sheehan’s mom. We would like to include the faces of any other families in our Bethany community who have been impacted by LLS. Teams compete in local and regional battles. Over the past few weeks we had 10 teams competing in book battles. There were 5 teams from 4th grade and 5 from 5th grade. Students read 16 books and answered questions about the content. We had a round robin competition and the final was Tuesday. In the final match, we had the 4th grade winners against the 5th grade winners. If all are correctly named, the child’s passport is marked with a stamp. Last month we had 403 students par7cipate. Lets see if we can increase that number!! No Idling Campaign “It’s Not Cool to Idle at School” Save money and help clear the air! Motor vehicles are the number one cause of air pollution in Oregon. What can I do? Excessive idling wastes fuel and can actually reduce the life of your vehicle. Newer vehicles are designed to warm up in 30 seconds or less, even in “cold” weather. Turn your engine off if you're waiting for an extended period of time. Despite urban myth that restarting uses more fuel, you will save fuel if your wait is longer than 10 seconds. Idling also gets zero miles to the gallon. DEQ Fact Sheet: Lower your vehicle’s environmental impact http://www.deq.state.or.us/aq/factsheets/07aq022_ecodriver.pdf
