C
umberland is a hub of recreation. The Great Allegheny Passage and C&O
Canal Towpath meet in this charming Victorian community, which is listed
on the National Register of Historic Places. Canal Place is home to the
National Park Service Visitor Center, the Western Maryland Scenic Railroad, and
a number of shops and restaurants.
From Canal Place, a short walk to Historic City Center will present a pedestrian
mall filled with specialty shops, boutiques, art galleries, eateries and spectacular
architecture. The mall hosts outdoor dining, farmers’ markets and various art
& cultural events including Bands on the Bricks concerts every Friday evening
throughout the summer.
