READYMADE Inspired by native Canadian gathering spaces throughout history, the READY-MADE shelter draws on elements of traditional shelters like the Teepee and the Igloo. Although temporary in nature, the Teepee and the Igloo provide a space for family to gather, sleep, eat and call home – even if just for a few days. The transparency of the Teepee sheathing and the block style construction of the igloo are visible inspirations for the shelter, but another element was fire. Fire has brought people and communities together throughout history – for cooking food, for warmth, for light – in the READY MADE shelter, a simulation fire is created by diffusing light through translucent materials, drawing those displaced from their homes together with the familiar glow. All materials used in the Ready Made shelter are readily available, recyclable and in some instances are Canadian made & manufactured. Ease of assembly was important, and the minimal kit of parts is reflective of that. The READY MADE shelter provides users temporary refuge from the chaos that displaced them.
