Round Singapore
I hope to use my aptitude in running, which was developed in my
university days, to set a national record. This will also be a
meaningful way of giving back to my alma mater, in conjunction
of the university’s 50th anniversary celebrations.

Started training in November 2004. Furthest distance ran so far is
15km. Mr Singh also runs about 10 km 2 to 3 times per week on
the treadmill.

Run Round Singapore is an excellent way to build up and enrich
the alumni spirit. I am very glad to be a part of this university
ultramarathon, and will endeavour to run for as long a distance
as I can and if possible, complete this run to the best of my
ability.

Yuen Cheng’s training schedule includes a combination of
cycling, running, canoeing, brisk walking and stair-climbing. He
will be taking part in upcoming races such as the Army HalfMarathon (11 Sep) and the Desaru Long Distance Triathlon (17
Sep) to better prepare for the run.

If I can’t run anymore, I will jog; if I can’t jog anymore, I will walk;
If I can’t walk anymore, I will crawl. I want to prove that it just
takes an ordinary person with an extraordinary spirit to complete
this 168-km mega-run.
I am extremely proud that I am given this opportunity to
participate in the run. It provides me with the chance to give back
to the university for the invaluable education I received, which
helped me in my imparting of knowledge and life skills for the
future generations of Singapore.

For me, running is akin to Life’s journey, both have its highs and
lows. This run is a personal challenge for me – a test of my
resolve, tenacity and depth of character. I hope that through this
mega-run, I will be able to live up to the University’s never-saydie and unwavering Nanyang spirit.
