Ms Decker introduced freshmen Landrie Jones, Isaiah Rivera, and Katie Watson who presented information on behalf of EAU as to how the student body arrived at choosing their school mascot. They respectfully asked that the Board approve the Blue Jay as the official mascot for East Allen University. Board Members complimented the students for a job well done on how the whole process was carried out at their school, for their due diligence, and for their presentation tonight. Mr. Baker asked that formal action be taken tonight instead of waiting until the next Board meeting. The multiple choice section has been extended by two days allowing EACS to delay administration of the test for one week to May 6th. New Haven High and Leo Jr./Sr.High Schools are competing in the CANstruction competition at Glenbrook Square Mall which runs through March 23. Mentored by local engineering and design professionals, the students have designed and will construct giant sculptures made with donated canned goods and nonperishable food products. The food will be given to the Community Harvest Food Bank at the end of the competition. Dr. Folks wished everyone a safe and relaxing Spring Break. 8.0 BOARD COMMENTS Name Neil Reynolds Topic The Board Retreat is set for April 11 and April 12. Friday morning will be spent with Tuck Hopkins with Dr. Folks joining the group in the afternoon. Board members received the Supt.’s evaluation form via e-mail and should come to the Retreat with it completed prepared to discuss it. Bob Nelson Thank you to the Heritage High School FFA for Sunday’s Pancake Breakfast; Congratulations to Woodlan High School’s Boy’s Basketball team who made it to Regional’s before losing. Their coach, Coach David Randall, was interviewed after the game. Mr. Nelson was impressed with his interview; Congratulations to Dr. Folks for being awarded a PHP award on behalf of NHIS at the Komet’s hockey game on Friday night; The Transportation Committee recently met and have given their recommendations to Mr. Stahly for his review before passing them on to Dr. Folks. Dr. Folks will then bring his recommendations back to the Board. 9.0 Chris Baker The Digital Day videos were outstanding, as well as the presentation by the EAU students. Stephen Terry, Bill Hartman Ditto on the presentations; the War Room visit at the EACS Alternative School this morning was outstanding. ADJOURNMENT There being no further business to discuss, Mr. Baker moved to adjourn the meeting. Mr. Nelson seconded the motion, and it was unanimously approved. TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF SALE. $7,650.00 2014 EACS SUMMER SCHOOL OVERVIEW Courses will be offered at Heritage, Leo, New Haven, and Woodlan High Schools, providing a sufficient number of students enroll. All students, including EAAS and EAU students, may choose the most convenient summer school location. Estimated cost is $115,773 and has been submitted to the IDOE for reimbursement consideration. Twenty-three Compass Odyssey courses are offered. All courses are on the approved IDOE summer school course list. Teachers will be contracted for 80 classroom hours, two training hours, and two hours for grading. Students will complete their coursework in computer labs under the supervision of an EACS teacher. All chapter tests and final exams will be completed under the direct supervision of an EACS teacher/employee. Enrollment deadline is May 14, 2014. STUDENT RESPONSIBILITES Students will attend summer school class from 8:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. beginning June 9th through July 11th (excluding the week of June 30th through July 4th). Students/parents must provide their own transportation. Approximately 80 computer hours are required to complete a course. Upon course completion, students will be exempt from further attendance.
