QUARTERLY NEWSLETTER OF ASA & ASSOCIATES LLP // CORPORATE CATALYST INDIA
The last quarter of 2016, a supposedly
less busy time for accounting firms. But
we managed to turn “having fun” into
a focused “To Do”. 25th anniversary
celebrations, Diwali parties, New Year
bashes and picnics – oh, we were so
very busy!
I read with pride and happiness those
entering wedlocks, those joining the firm
and those sharing their creative outcomes,
be it poems, writings or artistic pursuits.
Congratulations all. I was particularly
fascinated to read travel accounts. I am an
avid traveler. I encourage it. There is no
better way to assimilate and know a culture
than through travelling the unbeaten path.
If in a new city or town, always visit local
shops and eateries. Spend time in slow
motion. Absorb the world around you. Let
your eyes be your camera. You will realize
far more of the undercurrent with engaging
smiles and eyes than any book could show
you. The joy of travel only gets exposed
when you come as a tourist and leave as a
local. I wish everyone, every time –
happy travels.
We are now in midst of hectic planning for
the next fiscal year. The firm’s budgets and
events are being planned. We are filling
our diaries with dates and desires. We are
hungry for being the best. These moments
are also great for “stock taking”.I revisited
my conversations with colleagues, clients
and friends. Here is a net summary of these
mental voyages. While we work towards
becoming the best, we certainly have
achieved a rare and wonderful thing. We
have managed to build a “happy firm”. That
already is an exceptional achievement.
Well done.
Keep smiling, laughing and dancing. The
good moments is always-now!
Best regards
Ajay Sethi

Travelling to 100 ACRES
During Christmas week, you will find everybody
decked in smart casuals. The last day of the year
and we all were ready to welcome 2k17 and say
a healthy goodbye to 2016 by sharing some
amazing gifts with lovely messages affixed to
it. This was followed by a stupendous session
of ‘dumb charades’ for which everybody in
the room was divided into 2 troops. And
surprisingly some of us turned out to be
veterans of the game notching up impressive
scores for their respective teams. But it was the
coordination between team members and the
understanding and communication that really
made the event interesting! And for sure the
day would lnot have been complete without
yummy food, which was a real treat.
This day was much talked about. It was discussed in office, during lunch breaks, at tea intervals
and on phones. Yes, indeed – everyone was talking about the annual office picnic .The day when
we would all be away from the laptops and calculators. . The one day devoted to fun and games
alone and topped up by good food and masti!! This year, the picnic was planned at a classic resort
named ‘100 Acres’. A pleasant drive all brought us to this resort. After having a sumptuous breakfast,
it was the time for some real action. Volleyball, badminton, cricket, table tennis, hand soccer…the
sporting activities were endless. And the dip in the pool was something that made the day more
memorable. And it was really a wonder to see everyone, though not an athlete, participating and
enjoying such a variety of games!Even as the sun started setting on the horizon, many of us were
still full of energy while others were busy clicking the favourite ‘groupies’ for posterity. A tired body
however did not prevent us from enjoying a hearty dinner spread.

to the fun was Sankara Raman sir’s birthday

Annual Picnic To Kolli Hiils
The day had started dawned bright and clear, but it was the night for
whcihwe at Chennai were all waiting for! Yes, it was the time to head
for our annual picnic to Kolli Hills. The journey was full of surprises from
the very beginning, starting off with the RC cake cutting ceremony.
Yes! Birthday Celebrations on the train... The climb was eventful, as we
even stopped on the way for a surprise photo shoot. We set off for a
long trek to the Akasha Gangai Waterfalls followed by a visit to Lord
Arapalesswarar temple. Late evening we all collected arounda bonfire,
setting the stage for a mix of loud throated songs and dances in which
everyone participated in whatever manner they chose! By the end of
this grueling session, each one of us literally crashed for a much needed
sleep, all with pleasant thoughts of a day well spent. The next day
began with the yoga session conducted by KV sir and Sundar sir who
taught us a variety of poses from the Kabala bhati to Surya Namaskar.
There were a number of RC events that kept everyone engrossed. In the evening, we visited a temple and saw Namakkal Hanuman in his full glory.
When it was time to return we had both bitter and sweet feelings: bitter at the thought of parting but sweetened by the memories that stayed with
us. To sum it up-we had had enough fun and adventure that we would cherish for a lifetime.
Dussehra Pooja
Also known as Vijayadasami, in South India
it is seen as a day to express gratitude
for success in life. Dussehra Pooja was
performed in Hyderabad Office on this
auspicious occasion in the presence of our
popular Partner, K.Venkatraman. It was a
memorable day altogether.
Diwali - Festival of
Lights
The festival signifies victory of light over
darkness, good over evil, knowledge over
ignorance, and hope over despair.
On November 19th, RC team brought out the champion cricketer in every staff member at Chennai

office hours! The tournament had 10 teams, divided into two groups and teams finishing at the
top 2 positions after all league matches from each group qualified for the Semi Finals. Each team
had 8 players of which at least 3 were women players. Live updates of toss, scores, match results
and player of the match were given on a special Whatsapp group. Everyone played with a great
competitive spirit and sportsmanship that ensured that almost every match had a nail biting finish.
Hyderabad Office was colorfully decorated
with diyas and floral rangoli. A whole lot of
guess work went in to anticipate the Diwali
gifts since they were not disclosed till the
last minute!!
At the end of the day, Team MIGHTY OURCs led by Chandru defeated Team ADENGAPPA 8 PERU to
lift the Champions Trophy. Best individual performances were also rewarded. Mubarak and Sonal

SC-RC organised a Carrom match-One of

The evening was the most awaited part of
the journey with all adventure sports – para

ASA-CCI has been increasingly recognizing and leveraging
festivals to promote employee bonding, drive a positive

In diversity lies the beauty of
festivals. In the same spirit, a
garba night was organized by
the SC-RC at ASA-CCI Mumbai.
It saw the turnout of gorgeous
ladies and stunning gentlemen
adorned in traditional attire to
take part in the celebrations.
The fear of missing one’s footing

spirits and zeal that night. Mouthwatering snacks added to the
celebratory and festive mood as
the best dancers were conferred
with the titles of ‘Garba King’ and
‘Garba Queen’.
Movie Time – “Dhoni”
With cricket being the ‘national religion’ and

of this megastar on the cricket field, in his
biopic-“MS Dhoni, the untold story”. The movie
with its seamless timeline showed the various

with thunderous applause and a manifold
increase in our affection and respect for our

a lot of cheer with the kids with a number
of fun filled activities like laughing therapy,
dancing, singing, dressing children with
newspapers and staging a skit by the children
of the institution.
Everyone happily interacted with the children
talking about their daily lives at school, their
dreams and other interests. A donation was
also given to the school by SC-RC as a token.
Further small contributions were made by the
team for food items, fruits and snacks. There
was a photo session with the cute kids of the
ashram and our office participants as a souvenir
of our memorable visit.
Annual Trip to
Mangalore
It was fun time for all ASA-CCI folks after a
tight work schedule and various professional
deadlines. The excitement of the Annual
trip infact started a month before the SC-RC
informed everyone about this. The destination
for this year’s annual trip was the serene land
of Mangalore –Malpe Beach.
The Friday night of our departure was the time
we were all waiting for…. The bus journey
started with everyone grooving to music
…..tapping their legs to all the latest dance
numbers…Well into the night, while others
were trying to catch up on some sleep, a few
others had some weird ideas – of telling ghost
stories and scaring others out of their skins as
the bus made it way through pitch dark night
negotiating its way in the ghats.
These guys had certainly chosen their timing
well, for their spooky entertainment! We
reached the resort “The paradise Isle” early
morning. What a fantastic location and sight
welcomed us! The resort was right opposite
the beach…and we just could not take our
eyes off the fascinating expanse of water! The
first day started with a ferry ride for an exotic
island tour. We spent most part of the day there.
On return there was more fun in store. The DJ
night beckoned everyone on the dance floor
and soon the entire group was swinging to the
music. The dance and the merriment went on
past midnight.
The next day had something adventurous in
store for us. These were the water sports. all
kind of bumpy rides like banana ride, jet-ski
and parasailing had our adrenaline pumpint!
We followed this with a visit to the lighthouse.
It was a panoramic view of the splashing
wavers, the sun going down on the horizon
and the body of blue water stretching as far
as our eyes could see. This brought down the
curtains on our wonderful trip and we started
back to Bangalore. The enthusiasm and energy
in each one of us had grown manifold after this
exciting visit and all the way back, we played
Antakshari and other games to keep alive the
spirit of joy and happiness.

RE-LIVE A MOMENT
Dubai Trip
My family and I visited Dubai and Sharjah for a
week. The first thing I noticed there was how
disciplined everybody was on the road; there
was absolutely no honking! Imagine that! The
twin cities are filled with highrises.
The weather there was similar to Chennai
except that there was no humidity even when
the sun beat down.
We visited the Burj Khalifa (obviously), the 125th
floor to be precise.
It was quite a view! At the exit, on display was
the Aston Martin car used by Daniel Craig in
one of his Bond films! Went on a desert safari,
my favorite part of the trip (Those guys have
mad driving skills) and a not so pleasurable
ride on a camel.
BENGALURU
After that we had the privilege of witnessing
a top notch performance of fire dancing. We
also visited the Dubai mall which is home to
an aquarium filled with sharks and sting rays! It
also has an ice rink upon which artificial snow
falls from the roof; I didn’t skate though.
Udupi Trip Experience
There is a saying “A well planned job is
as good as half job done”. Similarly a well
planned trip is as good as half the enjoyment!!
To celebrate and attend the marriage of
our colleague Suresh. J. Rao, we planned
a 1 day/2nights visit to Udupi, a beautiful
city along the Coastal South Canara district
of Karnataka. We made sure that the bus
tickets were booked well in advance for a
comfortable night journey.
The bus journey was very enjoyable and we
stayed up almost till 3 AMreliving the funny
moments in office during an otherwise busy
audit season. The way through the curvy
Western Ghats section was no less than a
roller coaster ride, until we reached Udupi.
Udupi being a foodie’s destination, we made
sure we feasted on those delicious Mangalore
buns, Masala dosas & sweet tender coconut
for breakfast! Then we headed straight to
the marriage hall. It was a rather sleepy but
bumpy ride in the bus, thanks to the Udupi
14 // CONNECT
We peeped inside the ‘Dragon Mart’, another mall, which apparently looks like a dragon when
viewed from up high! It extended upto miles! Last but not the least; I got the chance to take
a real close look at all those fancy cars I had driven in the ‘Need for Speed’ games. Overall, the
experience can be described in one word i.e. Awesome!
Vasanth K
Bus drivers who made the journey to Udupi
look like F1 Formula Race! Suresh’s marriage
was performed in traditional south Canara
customs. We all congratulated the newly
married couple before feasting on the tasty
and sumptuous lunch! In the evening, we
spent our time at Padubidri beach near
Udupi, enjoying the beautiful sunset.
It was a real fun time on the beach withthe
showcasing of extraordinary talent of
mimicryby Vinay and a music competition
between Vinay & myself which we all enjoyed
heartilty!.
Shankar who is well known for his sense of
humour kept all of us in splits entertaining
us throughout the trip. We started back to
Bangalore with all the good memories that we
will cherish for the years to come.

The snug neighborhood bistros take great
pride in serving exquisite food, invariably
with the finest wines. The fashion capital of
the world always remains at the forefront of
international trends, from designer boutiques
to vintage shops and flea markets.
As luck would have it, my sojourn in France
happened a couple of weeks after the
shocking terrorist attack in Nice. I was about
to call off my trip assuming a gloomy and
mournful mood which was understandable.
Many people, if not all, end up shopping
around the most glamorous avenue,
Champs-Élysées- but if you Uber a bit to the
outskirts, you’ll end up being at La Vallee

Serpentine immigration queues and tight
security greeted us as soon we touched

Paris certainly lived up to its reputation of
being a top tourist destination despite all
odds.
The city exudes style, awe inspiring grandeur

intimacy. A cruise through the Seine in the

Namruta Ramesh
Namruta Ramesh, is an extremely shy, reserved
and a wonderful soul filled full of love and
kindness for everyone. Namruta joined us only
a few months back.
KOCHI
Although outwardly she is an introvert, with
a calm and composed personality, once you
befriend her you come to realise that she is
a very the most amazing person to be with.
Namruta is fond of music and is an avid movie goer. She tends
to keep to herself; however, she can be very open when the
situation demands.
She is particularly a big fan of the Star Wars saga and could not
stop gushing about the most recent version. At work, she is
hard working, persistent, and always keen to learn and opens
to new ideas.
She has worked with us only for a short while, but during this
period itself it has been a pleasure knowing her and surely we
will get to know more about her in the coming years.
Sreevidhya V Pai
(we must take note that she is a mother of a naughty cutie
baby… shhhh).
Peppy, zippy Sreevidhya is a 24/7 live wire. An
excellent multi-tasker, she handles every task
that she is involved in with utmost sincerity
and dedication.
As the name suggests, she is the Goddess of knowledge
(Saraswathi) and lives upto her name in ASA-CCI Kochi. She has
a solution for any question put to her. She makes anything and
everything look simple with her magical fingers.
She makes you feel that there is more than
one Sreevidhya in the office - because she
is involved in so many things, yet smilingly
and untiring finding a solution to all tasks..
The Assurance department’s cornerstone, Sreevidhya has also
worked for SC-RC Kochi during the year 2015-16 and had been
doing wonders with a variety of exciting events that ASA-CCI
Kochi has never witnessed earlier.
Gayatri S Prabhu
Upasna Sunder
Gayatri S Prabhu is the name which itself
depicts goddess Saraswati (The Goddess
of Knowledge, Wisdom, Arts). She has
been inspired of Raja Ravi Varma who has
managed to accomplish a beautiful unison
of the Indian traditions with the techniques
of European academic art.
There is no limit to nature in this universe; so
also, there is limit to personal skills. All this while,
we had discovered various talents in our friends
- from singing, dancing, photography, to being
writers and poets. But this time it was quite a
different and new form of creativity displayed
by our friend and colleague Upasna Sunder
-“Teracotta Jewellery and Polymer Clay dolls”.
Gayatri has gained expertise on Mural
Paintings, Oil on Canvas and Worli Art
(Beautiful folk art of Maharashtra). She is a
self-reliant artist and talented from her birth
only to execute her own innovation and
imagination without any formal training.
She is equally comfortable in Jewellery
making and cooking as well.
Usually many of us do not realise our inner
talents and wonder if we spend our leisure time
usefully. But Upasna Sunder is quite different.
She utilizes these free hours for her passion of
clay and making terracotta accessories.
While waiting for her CA final results, she
started pursuing her interest of making
terracotta jewellery and clay dolls by following
the tutorials from YouTube and other online
sites. Initially she started with plaster of paris
but later, after doing a lot of research, she
discovered terracotta clay and polymer clay
and started using them.
Her creativity does not end here; it is so exciting
to know about her idea of showcasing the
creation to an audience of various age groups
through social media. In addition to it she
also makes the products as per customer’s
specifications on demand.
16 // CONNECT
Even with the hustle and bustle of her
daily life and keeping with all professional
commitments, she has never let her love for her
passion fade away. She also spends her time
with young kids helping them in nurturing
their artistic skills on weekends.
To our surprise she says, “Art is my passion
and I will always continue with the creative
ideas and try to balance my profession and her
passion”. We on behalf of the ASA-CCI family
wish her good luck and success for all her future
endeavors. For more information, please visit

Monsters
Regret replaces instead
I get through
But in my heart, in my head
I know the truth
Failure is etched everywhere
I try to look past, I dare
But all I see are fake concerns
Hurting me more than the burns.
Cutting through my hand
I relish the pain
In the end I know where I stand
So I do it again
I break each mirror I see
I no longer can bare the view
My monsters now control me
For I’ve always known the truth.
Shijoy Joy
Forever..
And maybe I'll learn to live,
And I will learn to be strong.
And you will be in my heart,
To forever hold on.
You may not be with me,
But I feel you here.
You may not be with me,
But its like your always near.
I feel you hold me close,
wipe my tears.
And for me the time has froze,
And here you're always near.
And maybe I'll move on,
Maybe I’ll find another love.
But always your right here,
And am pulled from now.
I wish I could catch up with
you someday,
To the place you ran off to.
And maybe one day,
We will be able to start anew.
Aaaah all this wishful thinking,
These meaningless dreams.
Maybe they'll one day come true
Come true cause we were
always meant to be....
AVAM
Think. Express. Change
A single Rose can be my
Garden,
There was a unified struggle, a fight for a
common cause, a cause which was shared by
all, where there was oneness amongst minds,
to attain freedom. But, if those fighters were
alive today, they would have procrastinated
the fight, not out of laziness, but to allow our
society to mature and ripe.
A Single Friend my World.
Having attained freedom, Have we really lived
up to the expectations of those who guided
us? Let us sit back and introspect, let us ask our
conscience for once. The Great Subramaniam
Bharati through many beautiful Tamil poems
and songs called for unity amongst cultures,
to bridge the divide, break the shackles and
venture into a society where everyone is
treated equally and respected.
If one regularly attends Carnatic concerts,
Bharati’s work s are sung and playe d
melodiously, set to different ragas and talas
and which are expected eagerly to be integral
part of the concerts. But have we stopped
there? Have we moved further?
How far have we been to make this holy
thought take concrete shape?
Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi was a great
patron of the SWADESHI ideology
But how many of us are ready to shell out extra
notes, to acquire indigenous goods?
Have we become blind to those notes, or
we conveniently ignore that they actually
have SWADESHI ideology inscribed in them,
manifesting as Gandhi's picture.
How many of us are not fascinated by the
mere prefix 'Imported'? How far have we been
to enable this holy thought take a concrete
shape? The Phules, amidst stiff opposition,
oppression and in spite of being outnumbered,
maneuvered and put in perspective the
principle of gender equality.
It is often deduced that Best Friends are made
during School days, who knew their Journey
would be Different.
From 2011 to 2016
From a Babbler to a Listener
From a Juvenile to a Pamperer
From a Thrilled to a Calm
From an immense chocolate lover to a hater
From twinning to Winning
From Backing to Love
From each Latitude to Longitude
From Whatsapp Status to Email Passwords
From self to finding a second Self
From Kejal –Esha to Buddy-Champ of ASA
From each “From” to each “To” is their Ravishing
Expedition of Friendship.
They Hold Pride to be at the Epitome of Friendship.
All and Sundry at rock bottom need one living
soul with whom they are non-aligned and True
to life.
“KEsha” itself senses Immense Joy. The same is
what you perceive when you see this Duo Kejal
& Esha.
Their bond does justice to each synonym of
Friendship you find in any Dictionary.
The real test of Friendship is whether you can do
actually Nothing with the Person; and these two
enjoy the utterly simple moments of life. They
have proved all these years that ultimately the
Bond of all Companionship is Conversation.
Guys…Look at them and you will indeed
understand Friendship is all about “You can count
on me like 1..2..3.. and I’ll there and I Know when
you need me you can count on me like 4..3..2..
and I’ll be there because that’s what Friends are
Supposed to do..!!”
Ritika Shah
How far has this principle penetrated the
narrow lanes of our rural union; which actually
portrays India ? These examples are just drops
in the ocean full of oxymoron, torch bearing
thoughts as against actions
Let us again sit back and continue individually,
look for more such examples and analyze. The
ball being in each individual's court. It’s time for
us to invoke those fighters within us, but this
time not to fight a foreign power, but to fight
our foreign mindset.
