Over the last 12 months, everyone at Newcastle Permanent has been working hard to
provide you with the best possible products and services. Our home loans, savings
accounts, personal loans and credit cards received a wide range of product awards.
Independent research company CANSTAR awarded us with 24 of the highest possible
‘5-star ratings’ for home loans – more than twice as many as the best of the major banks!
And this year we were also awarded the Mozo Experts Choice Home Lender of the Year
2016, so you can be rest assured we have some of the best products in the country.
Our brand new state-of-the-art website was launched at the end of last year with a range
of new features including, an easy-to-use online application for many of our products,
which has been very popular.
Newcastle Permanent has more branches and ATMs than any other financial institution
in the Hunter, including the major banks. In October this year, we will be providing free
or reduced fee access to Westpac, St.George, BankSA or Bank of Melbourne ATMs
Australia-wide so you can have access to your money wherever you happen to be.
Our newest branches and ATMs in the vibrant Central West region of NSW in Orange,
Bathurst and Mudgee are having their second birthday and are doing very well. In just a few
weeks we will be opening our newest branch in the thriving rural centre of Dubbo, bringing
more choice to this local community.
As I mentioned in our last newsletter, we are currently upgrading our Internet and Mobile
Banking platform. The new platform has a range of new features and is easy to use. This is
a complex project and we expect to be finished in 2017. In the meantime, you can access
our Internet and Mobile Banking platforms through our suite of newly updated apps for
Apple and Android™.

From October 2016, we will be reducing the cost of
using the Westpac Group ATM~ network for customers.
Westpac ATM withdrawals will reduce from $1.00 to
$0.60 and will be even cheaper for balance enquiries.
Plus, depending on the account type you hold,
they’ll be included as part of your allocated free
monthly transactions.
So wherever you are in Australia, if you can’t access
a Newcastle Permanent ATM, you won’t be charged
differently for using one of Westpac Group’s 3,000 ATMs.

Rutherford Football
Club has raised
$12,000
through the program!
Rutherford FC Secretary, Kylie Parsons said the Introducer
Program was an easy way to raise funds for the club.
“We just let people know about the program, we tell our
families and friends to mention our Club’s name if they get
their loan through Newcastle Permanent. We’ve been able
to buy so much training equipment for the kids, as well as
new playing kits for lots of the junior teams. We’ll definitely
continue to raise funds during the off season too.”

Newcastle Permanent Charitable Foundation has provided more than $1.7 million in grants to
not-for-profit and community organisations across regional New South Wales over the past 12 months.
The grants have been used to fund more than 40 vital projects and initiatives. These are focused on supporting
the health and wellbeing of those in need and achieving better life outcomes for young people. This brings the
total amount of grants provided to more than $15 million, for more than 350 projects since 2003.

Ingredients (serves 4)
Method
500g chicken thighs
1 tablespoon of olive oil
1/2 tablespoon of fresh lemon juice
3/4 tablespoon of ground cumin
1 teaspoon of ground coriander
1 tablespoon of smoked paprika
1/2 tablespoon of chilli powder
1 x can diced tomato
salt and pepper to taste
4 x 12-inch tortilla
1 x corn cob in husk
Black beans
Shredded cheese
1 x lime
1. Mix the oil, lemon juice, spices and tomato with chicken thighs in a deep dish
2. Slow cook on a low heat for 4 to 6 hours until tender (add a small amount
of liquid smoke if you want to achieve a smokey flavour)
3. Remove the chicken from the liquid and shred the meat with two forks
4. Heat a large frypan to a medium/high heat and drizzle with olive oil
5. Strip the husk from the corn and strip the sweet corn from the cob
6. Place 1 tortilla in the pan and place chicken, cheese, corn kernels and
black beans evenly across the tortilla
7. Place a tortilla on top of the mixture. When cheese has melted, flip the tortilla
and toast the other side. Once both sides are golden and crispy, remove from
heat and cut into sections to serve
8. Serve with lime

Kids Scholarships
The Charitable Foundation’s Board of Directors
welcomed Graham Batten as its new Executive
Officer in March. The Executive Officer role
provides organisational and strategic support
to the Foundation’s Board of Directors.
Graham was formerly the Procurement
Manager at Newcastle Permanent Building
Society and brings with him considerable
corporate experience complemented by a
passion for working with his local community
and business partners in regional NSW.
The Charitable Foundation is helping
talented young people who face
disadvantage from the Hunter and Mid
North Coast to access the resources they
need to reach their full potential in the
sporting and performing arts fields.
The Charitable Foundation provided a
$55,000 grant to Variety – the children’s
charity to fund the first ever ‘Future Kids’
Scholarships specifically for this region.
Sixteen exceptional young people received
scholarships to help pursue their dreams.
Hunter Medical Research
Institute builds innovative
lightsheet microscope
Researchers now have access to new
technology that can assist in developing
treatments and possibly cures for diseases
affecting thousands of Australians. A $38,500
grant from the Charitable Foundation
helped three young University of Newcastle
biologists to hand-build a state-of-the-art
laser microscope at Hunter Medical Research
Institute. The microscope will help to improve
health outcomes for those in our community
battling diseases we don’t yet understand.
