The weather was perfect for picking pumpkins, playing games, and making crafts! Things have gone batty at East or at least in Mrs. Smith's PE class. Students move to their favorite spooky music as they crawl through the bat cave, scoot through the hayride, catch a spider, leap frog or bounce a bat! Lots of smiles this week in PE class! Jorge Samano, a third grader at South, won the annual Fire Safety Poster Contest. Jorge and his teacher, Mrs. Miller were picked up in a fire truck by Fairfield firefighters. Jorge and Mrs. Miller rode in the truck to the firehouse where they were given a tour and ate a tasty breakfast. Congratulations, Jorge! VOLUME 4, ISSUE PAGE 8 2 West Students in Mrs. Glass’ class are working on the Rally Robin retell. Here two girls use a retelling cube to help them. Central The students were so excited to see some of the wonderful West staff at the Wild West Dance! It was some boot stompin' fun! A huge thank you to the Fairfield Rotary Club for visiting West and giving all of our 3rd grade students new dictionaries! I think Mr. Otten was most excited to see this sweet 3rd grader! Freshman High School At the Freshman School, students in Ms. Jessi Grimes' physical science classes have been studying chemical bonding and reactions. Students "bonded with a buddy" to create compounds. Each student was a different ion and found ions of opposite charges to bond with. Students then used their knowledge to write a formula and name for their substance. National Honor Society Induction Senior Citizens’ Luncheon Fairfield Rotary Club members Mark Johnson, Mark Wendling, Brian Begley, Trent Chenoweth, and Fred Valerius recently delivered dictionaries to Central’s 3rd graders. Mr. Smith and his family set up a Fall obstacle course in the gym and had a week of festive music and movement. VOLUME 4, ISSUE 8 PAGE 3 North Wellness The North staff goes all out for the annual PTC Masquerade March Walk-AThon. Staff were dressed as characters from Frozen, the Muppets, Farmer in the Dell and more. Fun was had by all! The Wellness Committee sponsored the Staff Volleyball Tournament last week. Thanks to all who came out to participate and watch. The champion this year was the Intermediate School team. The team members were: Nicole Johnson, Jim Yates, Stephanie Martinkovic, Zach Downey, Matt Crapo and Steve Maloney. Congratulations! Intermediate 1,451 students attended the first quarter Fall Pride Party. Students earned the right to participate in the party based on their behavior throughout the quarter documented on the chart in their agenda. Students had a lot of fun doing outdoor activities. They could chose to do basketball shot, football throw, mini pumpkin rolling, pumpkin bowling, corn hole toss, pop ring toss, cookie walk, pencil pull, face painting and hair color. They could have earned prizes such as candy, cookies, mini footballs, bouncy balls, pencils and suckers. Middle These students were honored at the first quarter FMS Quest for Excellence breakfast. Each student received a certificate and FMS T-shirt. Students were selected because of their positive attitude and academic excellence. VOLUME 4, ISSUE 8 PAGE Encore! Fairfield Music/Arts Department News The cast of 'The Night Thoreau Spent In Jail' performed for the AP Language classes and then had a phenomenal discussion about the relationships between the play and what they had learned in class. This was a great experience for the cast and class members! See page 5 for more drama news regarding performances of “The Man Who Came to Dinner” this week. The Fairfield High School Marching Band was awarded a "Superior" rating from every judge, the highest rating possible, at the Ohio Music Education Association State Finals Marching Band Competition at Dayton's Welcome Stadium. Please congratulate marching band members for a great performance and a wonderful season! Go Big RED! Fairfield Indians Athlete of the Week (Oct 20 - Oct 26) ZACH BIRDSALL (SO) - Cross Country "Zach is the first boys CC runner since 2003 to make it to the state tournament. He has also moved up to the 4th best all-time 5K Cross-country times for Fairfield. Zach is the youngest Fairfield runner to make it to state since John Dixon went as a Freshmen in 1999." Coach David Pierce HUNTER KRAUSE (JR) - Football/QB "Hunter was 14/23 passing for 221 yards and 2 TD passes with no Interceptions in a 14-5 win over Lakota West. This was the first time beating West in 9 years. He also set the Fairfield football single -season record for TD passes in a season with his 18th, while also tying the all-time career TD passes record at 27."
