competitive advantage by forging lasting relationships with our team members and customers. Serving

Mariano’s
Roundy’s growth continues through its Mariano’s banner. The first Mariano’s store opened in Arlington
Heights, IL on July 20, 2010. Named for the Chief Executive Officer, Robert Mariano, the store was
designed and built to deliver the highest quality products from around the world and those produced
locally to shoppers with unequaled service and hospitality. Today, Roundy’s has 34 stores in the
Chicagoland area ranging from Gurnee in the North to Frankfort in the South with 11 locations in the
City of Chicago.
The Mariano’s Concept:
We’re not a “discount” grocery store. We’re not a “specialty” grocery store. We’re something
altogether unique. We exceed shoppers’ expectations for price and selection. We place a premium on
not just customer service, but the customer experience. We make a gourmet statement in a relaxed and
welcoming environment. We want our customers to feel empowered to try new foods and to
experiment and be creative in the kitchen without worrying that their wallet will take a hit. This is what
Mariano’s is all about. We seek to be an integral part of the neighborhoods we serve. Consider
Mariano’s a grocery store that is deeply invested in the health, happiness and well-being of our
customers. Today’s shoppers seek some level of control over their shopping experience. They yearn for
meaningful interactions at retail and want real “connections” with the stores they shop; not passive
experiences. That’s why we built Mariano’s the way we did.
13
Mariano’s
At Mariano’s we offer an enhanced selection of premium perishable and prepared food departments
and a wide array of organic and natural offerings including own brand (private label). Our stores are
distinctively modern and maintain an inviting ambiance. We also offer full-service pharmacies in most of
our Mariano’s stores.
Our success comes from the fact that we offer a highly differentiated food shopping experience to our
customers. We are extraordinary in our perishable offerings, prepared (ready-to-eat) foods and most
importantly, we are highly focused on customer service. The “Fresh” concept is the big differentiator –
bakery, produce, meat and floral. Our prepared food offerings are wildly successful and it is important to
remember that our store is value priced. Unlike some of our higher-end competitors, we offer one stop
shopping to our customers all at competitive prices.
Mariano’s influence comes from the world’s great food emporiums. Our customers experience exciting
offerings in our stores ranging from cooking stations, sushi bars, oyster bars, wine bars, spice shops;
Todd’s BBQ wood stone fired pizzas, Vero coffee and gelato, all natural fruit and vegetable smoothies,
specialty artisan cheeses, baked goods and other specialty offerings.
We’ve transformed grocery shopping from a chore, to a destination. Our maxim is “Shop
Well. Eat Well. Live Well” SM and it is genuine.

Distribution Network & Transportation
Management
We operate two distribution centers with an aggregate of approximately 1.3 million square feet of
warehouse and administrative space. Our distribution centers are located in:


Oconomowoc WI
Mazomanie, WI
1,100,000 square feet
210,000 square feet
Roundy’s has significant distribution efficiencies given regional scale and density. Our distribution network is
supported by modern and efficient trucking operations with a fleet of approximately 70 tractors and 325
trailers. The primary function of these centers is to supply our retail operations with a broad product line
that includes dry grocery, frozen foods, fresh produce, meat, dairy products, bakery goods and non-food
products. The vast distribution and transportation network Roundy’s has in place today has the capacity to
supply a significant number of additional stores.
Distribution Centers use reusable packaging to deliver over 30,000 individual items in three different
temperature zones to over 140 supermarkets in two states. Roundy’s has cut waste by an estimated 50%,
eliminated tons of waste from going to landfills and reduced labor costs in the process.
17
Roundy’s Commissary
Roundy’s operates an 116,000 square foot
central commissary located in Kenosha,
Wisconsin near major freeways and other roads
to support our retail locations. The commissary
is a multi-purpose food production
manufacturing plant. The plant is situated on
approximately 17 acres. The plant operates in
various forms and departments 7 days per
week, 24 hours/day. The plant was designed
with the focus of supporting our stores by
increasing our specialty and private label
products. We ship to our Oconomowoc
warehouse where product is then selected for
our stores’ needs.
Operations started in January 2006 with a state
of the art facility producing a wide range of
products. We manufacture for our own stores
only. Products include the following:



The commissary operates under the direct
supervision of the USDA and the FDA. Portions
of the plant/products are kosher and approved

The commissary has a comprehensive quality
assurance laboratory on site as well as a test
kitchen used for product development staffed
by our executive chef. We continually add to

Roundy’s Pharmacy
We have 101 pharmacies within our network of 151 stores in 2015. We are committed to expanding this
valuable offering to our customers and associates as we open new locations throughout the year.
Our pharmacies are full service pharmacies offering both clinical services as well as the more traditional
dispensing functions. We require our pharmacists to be licensed immunizers as we see this as a basic
service offering for pharmacy. Our successful adherence program, Ready-For-You, offers our patients the
convenience of automated refills while helping to improve their long-term clinical outcomes. We have a
robust Medication Therapy Management program and have partnered with several national platforms. In
2014 we added a Manager of Clinical Services to our staff to expand our immunization and clinical initiatives.
This position steered our team to a 100 percent increase in immunizations this current season. In addition,
our Manager of Clinical Care is challenged with preparing our team for the upcoming Medicare Star Ratings
that we will be held accountable for.
We continue to work strategically with local healthcare systems to expand our offering and take advantage of
the coming shift in healthcare. We believe that the pharmacist will be the first point of contact for many
American’s healthcare needs in 2015 and beyond. To that end, our pharmacists understand that the future
of pharmacy is in front of the counter, not behind it. To accomplish this we have provided workflow and
scheduling solutions to allow them the time to increase the number of interactions with our customers.
Even though we are a grocery store pharmacy, we continue to offer and expand some atypical services such
as delivery and even offer drive-thru service in some locations.
While the hallmark of supermarket pharmacies has always been about convenience, we believe that
Roundy’s pharmacies offer a unique experience for our patients by providing unexpected service levels and
offerings. The mission of every Roundy’s pharmacist is to offer unsurpassed levels of service and
satisfaction to our customers and patients. Our pharmacists understand that this is not only our mission
but our promise.
19
Sustainability Program
Roundy’s is committed to managing our products and processes in an environmentally responsible
manner by complying with requirements, preventing pollution, and continually improving our
sustainability program. As a result we have achieved the following results:






50% reduction in packaging waste
Reduction in labor costs associated with shipping/receiving/handling materials inside the closed
loop
Increased product protection (integrity) during the shipping and receiving process throughout
the system
Reduced disposal costs at store level and at distribution centers by recycling and reducing
shipments to landfills
Reduced carbon footprint by eliminating packaging materials and increasing shipping
efficiencies
System wide effort to improve as a sustainable organization and community partner
In 2013, Roundy’s became the first grocer in the state of Wisconsin, and only the third in the U.S., to
utilize a transcritical CO2 refrigeration system. The new system, located in our Menomonee Falls, WI
Pick ‘n Save, reflects a worldwide shift toward naturally occurring refrigerants that are considered more
environmentally friendly than their chemical counterparts, which have been linked to ozone layer
depletion and greenhouse gas emissions.
Transcritical CO2 system in Menomonee Falls, WI Pick ‘n Save*
Utilizing this system at our Menomonee Falls store allowed Pick ‘n Save to be one of just a few stores
nationwide to earn the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s GreenChill Platinum Award. Stores
honored with this award are recognized for reducing the amount of harmful refrigerant gas emissions
into the atmosphere by 95%.
20
.
Sustainability Program
On October 15, 2015, Roundy’s announced that it will join EPA's GreenChill program, which is a
partnership between the EPA and food retailers to reduce emissions and decrease their impact on the
ozone layer and climate change. Roundy’s has pledged to install the Transcritical CO2 refrigeration
system or whatever improved non-HFC technology becomes available in all new store builds starting in
2016 and any store remodels where the entire refrigeration system is scheduled for replacement.
Building Construction & Interiors:

Sustainability Program
Recycling: Roundy’s is a Charter member of the Wisconsin DNR Green Tier Program and launched a
major recycling campaign called WRAP. We are proud to be participating in efforts to recycle more
plastic bags and wraps that come from our stores and other places. As part of Roundy's commitment
to sustainability, we have provided handy recycling bins for our customers at the front entrance of all of
our stores. In 2014, Roundy’s recycled 1.85 million pounds of plastic store bags and plastic stretch-wrap
from pallets. That is 900 tons of plastic bags and wrap that never hit a landfill. Also in 2014, Roundy’s
recycled 26,100 tons of cardboard.
Animal Welfare: Roundy’s announced it will work closely with its suppliers to phase out the use of pig
gestation crates from its supply chain by 2022. Roundy’s believes animals can and should be raised,
transported and processed using procedures that are free from cruelty and neglect. We stand committed to
the highest standards of animal well-being.
Roundy’s encourages all of the farmers who directly or indirectly supply us with milk and other dairy
ingredients to support efforts that promote the enhanced welfare of cattle. While the practice of dehorning
is necessary for the protection and welfare of the cows and the farmers who work with them, we believe
polled genetics is a viable future option, eliminating the need for dehorning. We ask that strong
consideration be given to promoting the “polled” option as a sustainable alternative to dehorning throughout
your dairy supply chain. Until such time as polled dairy cattle herds are dominant, Roundy’s supports the
adoption of best management practices, including procedure timing and the use of analgesics and/or
anesthetics for dehorning.
Product Labeling: Roundy’s has done as much, if not more, than most conventional grocers with our organic
labeling as well as our new health key identifiers. For the customer that is truly concerned with GMO Free,
we have recently redesigned our Simply Roundy’s brand to call this out. We have approximately 1,900 nonGMO project verified (third party non-GMO certification & verification) products. In addition, we have over
1,500 USDA certified organic items.
Agriculture: Roundy’s partnership with the Wisconsin Food Hub Cooperative (WFHC), a member of the
Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection’s Something Special from Wisconsin™
program is structured to provide communities with locally grown produce in Roundy’s Wisconsin market
grocery stores. Beginning in August 2013, all Copps, Pick ’n Save and Metro Market stores began offering new
produce from WFHC.
Through this venture Roundy’s is able to offer its customers locally grown produce, including fruits and
vegetables, all harvested within Wisconsin. Pictures of the local farmers, information on each farm, its
location can be found on store banner websites, within stores and in print ads -- so customers can get a real
feel for their products’ roots.
Roundy’s believes in supporting local farmers, and offering customers the best in Wisconsingrown produce, while also supporting our local state economy.

Healthy Choices
Helping you live better is also precisely why we’ve developed health key™— a wellness program
designed to simplify your shopping experience and make it easier for you to put healthier food in your
cart. Through an easy to understand system, health key™ utilizes color-coded wellness attribute tags on
qualifying products throughout the store. Tags highlight up to 2 of the most
important dietary attributes for that item, which makes it easier for you to identify
products that fit your wellness goals. This helps you better understand the foods
you’re eating and makes it easier for you to create healthier meals. No more
confusing comparisons while shopping!

Philanthropy
Roundy’s wants to make a difference in the communities we serve. We believe passionately in
giving back to the neighborhoods and towns that support our stores.
The Roundy’s Foundation was chartered in 2003 to strengthen the commitment Roundy’s Supermarkets
has to the communities served by its stores: Pick ’n Save, Copps, Metro Market and Mariano’s. Focused
on providing basic needs that ensure strong families and strong communities, the Foundation’s mission
is to support organizations working to relieve hunger and eradicate domestic abuse. Since its inception,
the Foundation has donated more than $10 million to food pantries, women’s shelters and domestic
violence programs throughout Wisconsin, Minnesota and Illinois.
Hunger Relief is at the core of the Foundation’s mission. Our company’s stores sustain communities by
providing quality food at affordable prices, but an increasing number of families are struggling to put
food on the table. The bulk of the Foundation’s funds support agencies and programs getting food to
those at risk of hunger in the areas we serve. The food pantries and other non-profit organizations
receiving donations from the Foundation are dedicated to building healthy communities through hunger
relief and nutrition initiatives.
Roundy’s Foundation commits funds each year to organizations working to create strong families and
communities through programs designed to eradicate domestic abuse and violence. We believe feeling
safe in your own home is fundamental to having a strong family that contributes to its community.
Funds from this area support women and family violence shelters, as well as training and programs
focused on domestic violence prevention and intervention.
Roundy’s Foundation hits the road twice a year to go on weeklong trips known as “Focused on Feeding
Families Tours”. These tours take place in the spring and fall, crucial times for food pantries, when
donations are at their lowest levels. Smaller food pantries throughout Wisconsin and Illinois are
randomly selected to receive donations of food and money during these tours. The effort helped 120
pantries in more than two dozen communities in 2014.
