Greetings from Daire and Druinne, Baron and Baroness of Elfsea!
We wanted to extend our thanks for all of those good gentles who came out and helped with Elfsea
Defender. We had a great day and there was much fun.
To our Stewards, Cathal and Allejandro, their Keystone, Tomas, and to all of their coordinators, we
appreciate the hard work that you did.
Of especial note is Robin of Northkeep, who travelled back to see us this year with an archery shoot
that is rivalled by none in our fair kingdom.
We know that much work went into the preparations and in the clean up.
If you missed Guardian of the Tor this weekend you missed out on a lot of fun. As always the Tor
put on an excellent event with as much fighting as you could stand, it was as much fun to watch as
it was to fight in.
I would like to thank everyone that made this event happen and a special thank you to those that
helped me get through my birthday celebration intact. I am deeply grateful to have such good friends.
Again, all have our thanks for these days special ones.

Seneschal
To the Good People of Elfsea, your Seneschal sends Greetings.
Congratulations to Cathal and Alejandro for autocrating a successful Elfsea Defender, and many
thanks to all the people who made this event a success.
The April 17th Boy Scout Demo was enjoyed by many scouts. Thank you to all who helped
make it great.
This month starts with Guardian of the Tor (May 1 -May 3nd). Please come out and support
Dragonsfire Tor as they select their Chivalric, Rapier, Archery, and Bardic champions. The
champion's collars are pretty, aren't they? Come compete for honor at Dragonsfire Tor's Guardian
XVII at Camp N Fish near Glenrose. Please see the Dragonsfire Tor website
(www.dragonsfiretor.org) for event details.
Queen's Champion will be held at Glaslyn on May 22. Please come out and fight for the
honor of being her majesty Gilyan Alienora Clonmacnoise's champion, and support the Canton of
Glaslyn.
Steppes Warlord and Royal Huntsman is May 28-30 at Canton. Come compete for the title of
Steppes Warlord, Champion, Archer, and Bard. The Royal Huntsman competition will also be held.
Baroness Catherine is stepping down, and "the Hepburn" and his lady will be invested as the new
Baron and Baroness of the Steppes.
Bids needed! If you've ever wanted to be an autocrat, don't miss this opportunity.

Rapier Marshal
Greetings!
We had a wonderful day at Elfsea Defender this year. The weather was clear and warm and the
site was beautiful. Don Allesandro won the Rapier Champions list, fighting for his lady, Angelina
Falconis. The Iron Star five-man melee was won by Shadowlands Through the Years.
We’ve had good weather for our Wednesday practice this month as well, and look forward to
another month’s worth until we get into the heat of the summer. The good weather has been drawing
out more fencers, fighters, and others from the barony to enjoy the evening with good company.
Just another notice – fighter practice is every Wednesday from 7:30 to 9:30 at the Bedford Boys
Ranch. We do try to arrive a little early, and often run a little late. Any changes or cancellations will
be posted to the Elfsea list by 5:00pm the day of practice. If you are unable to check the list but want
to be kept up to date, please let me know and I'll add you to my contact list. Thanks!

As some of you are aware, the office of Webminister is Open for Bids. We are seeking
someone who can take over the current administration of the website. Bids will close at the next
month Elfsea Moot, May 24, 2010.
Anyone interested should:

Below is link to a copy of the email received from HL Marc-Antoine de Larue, Kingdom
Webminister. This email outlines the new Kingdom level requirements on websites.

In addition to the requirements listed in the above documents, our website also involves some
of these tasks:

Fielding general questions about the site from our members
·
Updating the event, news, location, databases
·
Updating raw web pages (like when an office is open for bid) when needed
·
Updating for their Excellencies travel information on the event (the calendar)
database
·
Authorizing new members
·
Once and a while, open the SQL databases and look for member who have been
lockout of the log on. Reset the logout flag and sending the user them a form letter.
·
Likewise, open the SQL databases and look for members
[email protected] did not receive (junk mail filter) a new member notice. Authorize
the new user and send them a form letter.
·
[email protected] is the catch all for any and all email that bounces off the server.
Lots of junk mail!
·
Sign on to the server and update the .forward file when there is a change in an
office’s email address or a change in one of the group forward email addresses (like the
finance committee).
·
Create any new web pages when requested or that you think are important.
·
When we have any new champion(s), add there name to the list of champion(s).
Also swap in the new champion’s name on any other web pages were an update is needed.

We held a class on the Theories of Making Papyrus on April 20th and there are two links I would
like to share with you.
This first link is Google's archive on what Pliny the Elder had to say about how papyrus was made
during period. This was the only period source I was able to find - if you know of another please
share!

I will be experimenting with the process of making papyrus, the sources that I have all give very
vague step by step proccesses, but no exact or remotely scientific measurements or times for the things
that you do. Also several sources commented on the importances of using water from the Nile so I
think it would be cool to expermiment with different waters.

Three Comanders Announcement
Unto the Kingdom of Ansteorra, and to her Baronies, Shires and Cantons.
The Shire of Rosenfeld announces the next chapter in the 3 Kings annual event,
The Battle of 3 Commanders. October 1-3 Hawkins RV Park, Hawkins Tx.
July to September 1588
The Spanish Armada, had attempted to rendezvous with its army and invade England to depose the heretic
Elizabeth I.
The Armada waited in vain for the Duke of Parma's army to arrive at Calais. The English Navy using
fireships
caused the Armada's ships to cut anchor and escape into the North Channel. Meanwhile in Ireland the Irish
Pirate Queen Grainne
was losing her hold over the waters of Cley Bay to the English and traveled to England for an audience with
the Queen, hoping to regain her rights.
What ifs ?
What if the Duke of Medina Sidonia did not escape into the North Channel and followed King Phillips plan to
invade England, but the Privateer Sir Francis Drake was there to try to stop him?
What if the Pirate Commander Grainne Ui Mhaille, seeking release of her hostage son and her ships, came to
present her case before, Elizabeth I, and found herself in the middle of a war? (What could a pirate do?)
What if The 3 Commanders had been able to deploy the Grapple Hook and then Rapier fighters from each ship
fought on decks and gangplanks with the treacherous ocean waiting to swallow them up?
What if the Spanish Armada and Grainne assaulted the English Castle from their ships using archers and
siege weapons ?
And what if they landed and all 3 commanders met in an Heavy field battle?
Then we could have the Battle of 3 commanders.

Choose your commanders and prepare your Bardic and A&S entries, the theme is Pirate, Privateers, the Sea,
Irish, English and Spanish,
extra points may be given for adhering to themes
Documentation required for static display and encouraged for performance.
There will be a Pirate Quest for children 6-12, no limit on entrants.
