(1) Underline the rhyming words in the following quatrain. (A quatrain is a four line
stanza in a poem or line of verse).
(2) Then, assign a letter of the alphabet, starting with a, to each rhymed sound at the end
of a line. Write the letter assigned to the sound at the end of each line.
(3) Write the rhyme scheme on the lines at the bottom of the quatrain.
(4) Place stressed ( ) and unstressed ( ) marks over the appropriate rhythm patterns, or
beats, of the quatrain selection.
(5) Count the number of iambic feet (one unstressed, and one stressed, this beat equals 1
iambic foot). Place the number of iambic feet in the line, at the end of the line.
(6) After numbering the iambic feet, refer to the table on the meter sheet to name each
line. Write the name.
