Another Fantastic Authors in April Week!
This past Monday students and staff were visited by three nationally acclaimed authors:
Laurie Keller, Brian Floca and Lisa Graff. This unique event wouldn’t happen without so
many volunteers; especially Mrs. Coleman & Mrs. Welker & Mrs. Atwater who have
attended meetings all year and made sure books were ordered, sold, and autographed!
Thanks also to the great volunteers who hung all of the book related art and helped the day
run smoothly. Finally, I would like thank to Mrs. Peasley, who helped our children create
such beautiful art that really impressed the authors and Mrs. Pratt, who coached Kindergarten and first
graders in singing a special song for Laurie Keller.
During her presentation, author Laurie Keller engaged students as she talked about her books on manners,
dental health and donuts. She even taught students how to draw some of the characters from her books! Lisa
Graff spoke to students about the importance of rewriting and eavesdropping, especially when trying to
include realistic dialogue in your writing. Lastly, Brian Floca took students inside the book making progress
by showing them all of the research and hard work that goes into writing and illustrating a book. All in all, it
was a great day for reading!
Thank you very much to the PTA, North Hill staff, and parents for your continued support of this
outstanding program!
Thank you,
Mrs. Rainwater
Mileage Club in May is here!!
Mileage Club is an optional walk/jog program that will be held every Tuesday
and Thursday during recess (weather permitting) through the month of May.
Students will walk or jog around a course on the playground during recess.
Mileage Marker cards are punched every time a child completes a lap. When
recess ends, students return their cards. The students participating will receive
a 6" chain and charms for their mileage as incentives. A popsicle party for all
the students who participated will be held on the last day of Mileage Club.
By participating in the Mileage Club, your children will discover that physical
activity can be fun and rewarding!
If you would like to volunteer to assist with punching mileage cards and
distributing charms please contact Amy Irish at [email protected] or
#248.766.8607. Volunteers for even one date during recess (11:15-1:15)
would be greatly appreciated.

Authors In April
What a busy week! Authors In April was a great event again this year – and I wanted to give a shout
out to the crew behind making it so wonderful for our children and the authors during their visits:
Stacey Welker, Lisa Attwater, our Media Specialist Mari Rainwater, our Art Teacher, Camilee
Peasley, our Music Teacher, Kathleen Pratt, and our volunteers for the day of: Alice Moo, Maya
Vittal, Mary Clor, Wendy Bomers, Kristen Patterson, Judy Antenucci, Melissa DeGraw, Debora
Weaver, and Cheryl Sage! The banquet was a lot of fun, and we’re hoping that once we settle the
sales for this year that the PTA will be able to frame at least two of the wonderful artworks drawn for us
during the visits this year!
***Note: We overwhelmed Laurie Keller with the amount of books to sign (it’s a good thing!), so all of
our books will not be returned to us until this weekend – all children should have their books back no
later than Tuesday next week! Thank you for your patience!***
Mom-Son Night – Thank you’s:
Michele Pridoehl did an awesome job – the boys LOVED it !! I’d love to thank her volunteers and
sponsors for all their support and help:
Co-Chair Jennifer Schroeder, Committee Members Eunju Han, Rebecca Cetnar, The Bosley
family, the Herman Family, the Rowland Family, Kathy Murphy, and Janet and Frank Morelli.
We also want to specially recognize the Duggan family for delivering 157 canned goods to the
Rochester Area Neighborhood House – they were very thankful for the generous donations. What a
wonderful event that provided fun, bonding, and community service! Thanks again Michele!!!
LAST PTA MEETING OF THE YEAR!!! – DON’T MISS IT!!! MAY 13th
At the meeting this month, we will be installing the new officers, and we will have the 4th grade teachers
presenting! Please mark your calendars and join us!!! We should have an update on the planning for
the new science enrichment for next year as well!
Please have a safe and enjoyable weekend (hopefully warmer than last weekend!)….and don’t forget to
consider one of our open volunteer spots for next year -- let Cathi Herman
