FamilyBackground: An only child, Dalton was raised in female‐headed household. His parents were
divorcedandhegrewupinahomewithhismotherandaunt.Dalton’smothersold
secondhandclothes,called‘salaula’.Thebusiness,however,didnotfarewellandit
was difficult to provide for Dalton’s education. In December 2009, Dalton lost his
mothertoillness.ThelosshasbeenveryhardonDalton;however,weareconfident
that in the face of adversity, he will continue to work hard, motivated by the
memoryofhismotherwhosomuchwantedhimtosucceedinlife.Hecontinuesto
live with his Aunt, who, unable to find steady employment, struggles to support
Daltoninadditiontoherowntwochildren.Sheonlyreachedgrade4,sofindinga
jobhasbeendifficultforher.DaltonalsoliveswithhiscousinsVincent(studyingto
becomealabtechnicianatUNZA)andJacqueline(startinggrade12).

While at Mumana Basic School, Dalton was described as a very intelligent student
who never disappointed his mother when it came to schoolwork. He maintained
firstorsecondpositioninclasssincehewasinnurseryschool.
AtIbexHillSecondarySchool
Grade8
Daltoncontinuedtoproduceexcellentresults.Heobtainedhighscoresinhisendof
termtests.Interm1,heachievedthesecondpositioninhisclasswith478overall
points.Intermtwohemaintainedthesecondposition,attaining526points.
Grade9
In grade 9, Dalton continued to rank at the top of his class, finishing in the top 3
students—interm3,hewasnumber1inhisscienceclassandnumber2inhismath
class.

Thoughhehadatoughstarttotheyear,Daltonhasworkedveryhardandhas
gottenhisgradesbackuptowheretheyusuallyare.Hefinishedthetermin4th
positioninhisclassandearnedtopmarksinphysics/chemistryandhistory.Dalton
continuestobeastarathleteatIbex,playingfootballandcompetingintrackand
fieldduringInterhouseAthleticsDays.Heishopingtocontinueimprovingduring

achievedhighmarks,earning5A’sand1Bandrisingto3rdpositioninhisclass.His
improvementwaveredslightlyinTerm2.Hisresultswerenotasgoodandhe
droppedto5thinhisclass.However,afteraneyeopeningandeducationaltripto
SouthAfricawiththeGrade11’s,herecommittedhimselftoachievinghispast
successesagain.HisTerm3resultsremaintobeseenbutweareexpectingmarked
improvement.
Dalton’sInterests:
BeforeenrollingatIbexHillSecondarySchool,Daltonenjoyedplayingfootball,
readingandwatchingmovies.Therearenowsomenewadditionstothelist,and
somegreatachievementsaswell.
Daltonisanactivememberofboththedramaandscrabbleclubs.Indrama,they
puttogethersmallsketchestoperformwhich,accordingtoDalton,helpshim
improvehisconfidenceandpublicspeaking.Whilehesometimesbecomesnervous
performinginfrontofhisclassmates,heovercomesthefearandisproudofhispast
performances.Ingrade8,hewascaptainoftheunder13boy’ssoccerteam,scoring
12goalsin10matches.Ingrade9,hecontinuedtobealeaderonthefield—scoring
goalsin2outofevery3gamesheplayedasamidfielder.HehelpedleadtheIbex
HillsoccerteamtotheIndependentSchoolsAssociationofZambiacup.Ingrade10,
Daltoncontinuedtoperformontheathleticfield.SomesportshighlightsforDalton
fromgrade10includeparticipatinginInterhouseAthletics,helpingleadtheIbex
teamtothequarterfinalsatthevolleyballfestivalsinCentralProvince,andscoring

Withthehelpoffriendsinhiscommunity,Daltonhasstartedafootballleague.
Therearetwoteams—under15andunder11.Daltoncoachestheunder11team,
organizingpractices,workingonfootskillsandsettingupgameswithotherlocal
teams.Hesaysithashelpedhimtoimprovehisleadershipskillsbecausetheboys
onhisteamtrulylookuptohim.YoucanfindhimduringtheholidaysonKaunda
SquareBasicGround,eitheronthesidelinecoaching,oronthefield,leadinghis
team!DaltonishopingtoaddtwoKFstudents,JosephandElijah,tohisproject.
CareerInterests:
Daltonisverysharpandwantstobeadoctororeconomistinthefuture.Itupsets
Daltontoseedisabledchildren,andhehopestofocusonthatpracticewhenheisa
doctor.Hisinterestineconomicsisfromadesiretohelphiscountry—“yougetto
knowhowtobalancetheeconomy.”
