Required texts for all houses/years:
Turabian’s Manual for Writers, Chicago (most recent edition). There will not be class sessions
on this work. It is your reference book for style and composition.
Walt Russell, Playing with Fire, NavPress (any edition is fine). There will not be class sessions
on this work. It is the textbook for the Hermeneutics Conference (an event for Freshmen
in the Fall), and required reading at various points in your Torrey semester (i.e., you are
asked to read pertinent sections before your Bible sessions).
Wayne Grudem, Systematic Theology, Zondervan (any edition is fine). There will not be class
sessions on this work. It is the textbook for the Theology Conference (an event for
Morgan Freshmen and Johnson Sophomores in the spring), and a reference work you
should have on hand to trace the biblical origins of doctrines we encounter in our
historical reading.
ESV Bible, Crossway (we prefer ISBN 1581343167). The translation preferred by Torrey Honors
and used in all your Bible classes.
Note: Unless otherwise stated, you must read the text before your first class session on that text.
For example, if there are three sessions on The Aeneid, and nothing is stated in the details section
of this document, you must read the book in its entirety before the first session.
