Fact Sheet – Expression of Interest Professional/General Staff Appointments Division of Human Resources Fact Sheet When to consider an Expression of Interest: An Expression of Interest (EOI) is method of collecting applications within an internal advertising recruitment process and is considered a competitive merit based process. There are two options where EOI process is appropriate: Option 1 A) Temporary vacancy (normally less than 12 months) in which the hiring manager can source an internal candidate within a particular cohort or area and where a full application is not required. The recruitment process is managed by the hiring manager including collecting applications and coordinating shortlisting and interviews where appropriate. B) This method should also be considered for continuing positions when looking to promote staff from a particular cohort where a new position will be created from existing funding (ie the successful applicant’s position is disestablished). Option 2 Temporary vacancy (normally more than 6 months) in which the hiring manager can source an internal candidate across the whole university and where a full application is not required. The recruitment process is managed by the Division of Human Resources including collecting applications and coordinating shortlisting and interviews where appropriate The benefits include: 1. A template is available for applicants to provide a consolidated version of their application which aids shortlisting for the selection committee; 2. Creates a development opportunity for suitable internal staff members which promotes capacity building, career progression and identification of opportunities for succession planning; 3. Provides an open, fair and equitable process to maintain staff morale. It also encourages a healthy workplace culture around recruitment and staffing practice. If you are looking to fill a role that is new to the University or for continuing roles above level 6, an internal vacancy requesting a full and detailed selection criteria is more appropriate. Before commencing an expression of interest process, approval from the Delegated Officer must be obtained on a Recruitment Action Form and advice sought from your HR Liaison team. A HR Liaison Officer will review draft advertisements before they are placed to ensure compliance with policy, procedure and practice. Where more than one application is shortlisted it would normally be appropriate to interview candidates. All applications will be provided with feedback by the hiring manager. Selection Committee constitution and requirements should be discussed with your HR Liaison Officer.
