Large mixing bowl

Measuring spoons
Rubber spatula
Brownie pan
(9" x 9" recommended)
1. Butter the pan. (Tip: coat the pan with a little flour to make brownies easier to get out.)
2. Pour the sugar, cocoa, flour, and chocolate chips into the bowl and stir until mixed.
3. Add butter, eggs, and vanilla. Mix well.
4. Pour batter evenly into the pan so it’s nice and level.
5. Bake 25–35 minutes at 350°F. (Tip: to gauge readiness, poke the center with a
toothpick. If it comes out clean, the brownies are done!)
Gluten allergy? Use 1 cup brown rice flour instead (can be found at most grocery stores).
Dairy allergy? Replace the butter with apple sauce. 1 stick of butter = ¼ cup apple sauce. You can still use chocolate chips, just the
nondairy kind. These are sold at most health food stores. You can also simply leave chocolate chips out—the brownies don’t need them.
Otherwise, consider replacing with marshmallows, pretzels, or cocoa powder.
Egg allergy? Use apple sauce instead of egg. 1 egg = ⅓ cup apple sauce. —
OR— Use flax or chia seeds instead of egg. 1 egg = 1 tablespoon
ground flax or chia seeds (measure after grinding) with 3 tablespoons water. Stir well and place in the refrigerator to set for 15 minutes.
