This cattle drive marks the 20 year anniversary of the first cattle drive in 1995. As with all the previous cattle drives we are doing every thing we can to make this drive a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone involved. You have been given a list of rules and suggestions but there’s one topic I would like to emphasize, and that is “breakdowns and repairs. The nature of this ride in particular is that parts and repairs for your equipment are not sold on the ride and you may not have a vehicle to ride to the store. The most common breakdowns can be covered with minor items that will fit on your saddle or your bags. Bridle reins, headstalls, curb straps, billets and girth straps can take you off the ride and it is guaranteed to happen to some or many riders. A small piece of chain pre measured with repair links on each end will fit in your watch pocket and can replace a broke curb chain in minutes. A small piece of braided rope can repair a headstall replace a billet temporarily, or replace a broke rein. 12 or 15 ft of small braided rope should either fit in your saddlebags or tie to your saddle as would a replacement billet. Wagons and Buggies will follow cattle off road when possible and take alternate routes when necessary. Some terrain is rough and breakdowns in 1995 were more frequent than 2006. We did break several tongues and some harness equipment. If you have extra replacement parts that can be tied to your wagon it might come in handy for you or others. Extra drive lines or repair string is also handy. Circle Bosses will be on hand as well as others to help with breakdowns, but they will not have necessary repairs parts, except for their own needs. Time required for repairs is critical. 500 riders and 500 cattle are on a schedule. They will not and cannot wait for repairs. Catching up is not a simple matter and neither is being stranded out in the woods. If you got repairs or replacements, bring them. Looking forward to riding with you in this historic Cattle Drive Paul Sullivan 11 THE GREAT FLORIDA CATTLE DRIVE '16 Presented By The: Florida Agricultural Museum, and The Florida Cow Culture Preservation Committee, and the Florida Dept. of Agriculture and Consumer Services www.greatfloridacattledrive16.org (407)314.2347 & ( 407)359.9341) Sponsors
