Guidelines DocsBarcelona Industry Activities 2017
Deadline to submit projects (Speed Meetings, Latin Pitch and Interactive Pitch)
is Wednesday, March 1st 2017, 1.00 p.m. (UTC/GTM+1).
Projects received after this date and hour will not be accepted.

Only projects that have been submitted through the DocsBarcelona Industry Activities
registration form will be considered.
The fee for project submission is 12,10€ (Vat included), incomplete applications without
sufficient documentation will not be considered for selection.
The selected projects will be published in DocsBarcelona website on March 31st and
the projects selected will be able to make the payment until April 7th.
Regulations for all applicants
What projects are eligible?

Documentary projects in a development/pre-production phase, production phase or
almost ready to go into post production but still have a substantial funding gap.
(DocsBarcelona doesn’t accept finished projects for the industry activities; you should
submit these to the Open Call of DocsBarcelona 2018. The 2017 Open Call is already
closed.)
Short documentary projects are not admitted.
Projects must have international appeal and have filmmaking quality and creativity.
Projects do not need to have financing already in place.
Co-productions from any country of the world are admitted.
Although documentary series projects are welcome, due to low funding opportunities,
they are not recommended.
There is no limit of projects submissions per company / person.
It is very unlikely that more than 2 projects from one company are selected.
In which activities should I submit my project?

If your project is from Latin America you are encouraged to submit for the Latin Pitch,
where specialized commissioners, funders and advisers will take part of a panel. To
apply for the Latin Pitch, the project must have a minimum of 60% of Latin American
production and the director must have Latin-American nationality.
If your project is an interactive documentary, web-based, cross-platform or a
convergent media project, you are encouraged to submit for the Interactive Pitch,
where specialized commissioners, funders and advisers will take part of a panel.
If your project is in a Rough Cut stage and you want to get professional creative
feedback on your film, you should submit for the Rough Cut Screenings. For more

If you want to submit your project at two different industry activities, you may select
the two activities during the submission form and pay for both applications. The
selection committee will determine which category a project is most suited for.

To submit a project for DocsBarcelona Industry Activities (Speed Meetings, Latin Pitch
and Interactive Pitch) you need to fill in a submission form you will find at
DocsBarcelona Visitor Page under “Project Submission”. To be able to submit a project
you will need to register at the Visitor Page of DocsBarcelona creating your own user
and password. To create your account, please visit:

In order to submit a project it is mandatory to provide an online link of the teaser. The
length of the clip must be maximum 3 minutes. If the original language is not English it
must include English subtitles.
To apply you will need a PDF document with a presentation of your project, maximum 2
pages long, (in one document), in English. These documents need to include the
following information:
Page 1: Teaser / clip link and password if necessary. Details (length, language,
stage…) indicating the documentary theme (sociology, arts, music, culture, human
rights, current affairs, environment, etc.). Synopsis and treatment (images can be
included).
Page 2: Production Company CV, Producer and Director CV, budget and
financing plan (it is not necessary for submitted projects to have financing in place.
Please, point out the funding opportunities you’re looking for at DocsBarcelona (coproduction, distribution, TV rights sales…) and please, specify the territories of interest.
Projects longer than 2 pages will not be accepted. The name of the document must be
the title of the project in English.
Interactive, web-based, cross-platform or convergent media projects must include the
interactive treatment and all the different platforms that the project may have in the
written PDF document submitted at the entry form.

The selection committee will take into consideration the documentary topic/subject to
guarantee diversity in themes and styles in the project selection.
The CV of the director, producer and Production Company will be taken into
consideration. DocsBarcelona is looking for experienced filmmakers but also for new
talent.
From all projects submitted, 39 projects will be selected for the Speed Meetings, 5
projects for the Latin Pitch and 3 projects for the Interactive Pitch.
For each selected project, two participants are allowed to attend the activity.
The selected projects information submitted on the application (PDF Document) will be
published in a dossier that will be handed out to the Panel of financers together with the
teaser’s link. Selected projects will have short time to be able to make any changes.
If your project is not selected, we cannot provide personal feedback to each
application, due to the high demand of entries.
If your project is selected, your participation won’t be confirmed until you proceed to
do the payment before April 7th, 2017.
Cancellation Policy: In case you cancel your participation at DocsBarcelona, there will
not be refunding.

Participants must be fluent in English because presentations will be in this language
and it will be the binding language from all industry activities at DocsBarcelona.
By providing your trailer and stills, you give DocsBarcelona permission to use the
material for promotional purposes and information materials for participants.
If the selected project is completed in due time, DocsBarcelona Industry Activities will
be referred to in the credits with the DocsBarcelona logo.
All participating projects are offered a fee waiver code to submit to DocsBarcelona

Entry regulations for Speed Meetings projects

Speed Meetings are DocsBarcelona main industry activity, a financing and distribution
market for documentary industry and a meeting point for professionals from all over the
world.
The selected projects for Speed Meetings will have one to one meetings of 15 minutes
with financers. The Meetings will be arranged previously depending on financers’
preferences.
Projects will be able to ask for 5 meetings and DocsBarcelona team will communicate
these requests to financers. Only when the financers will agree, DocsBarcelona team
will schedule the meetings.
If you have submitted your project for both Latin Pitch and Speed Meetings and you’re
selected, the selection committee will determine which category your project is most
suited for.
A training workshop will take place some days before the Speed Meetings for selected
projects only. The Speed Meetings registration fee for selected projects doesn’t include
the workshop fee. DocsBarcelona strongly advises Speed Meetings participants to
register for the training workshop.
The Speed Meetings will take place on Thursday, May 25th and Friday, May 26th from
09:00 am to 2:00pm, at Barcelona city centre. Each project will be scheduled for one of
the two dates.
The Speed Meetings room is restricted to accredited participants. Projects will only
have access the day they have meetings scheduled. Participants will need their
accreditation to access.
The Speed Meetings registration fee for selected projects is 442€ (21% VAT included).

The Latin Pitch will consist in the presentation of 6 projects from Latin America in front
a selection of financers, especially interested in projects from these countries, and
DocsBarcelona accredited professionals.
5 out of 6 documentary projects will be selected from the Open Call. The one project
remaining will be chosen in collaboration with the documentary festival in Latin
America: DocsBarcelona Medellín (Colombia).
Only projects from the following Latin American countries can submit: Argentina,
Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Equator, El Salvador, Guatemala, Haiti,
Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Puerto Rico, Dominican
Republic, Uruguay, Venezuela and Chile.
To apply for the Latin Pitch, the project must have a minimum of 60% of Latin
American production and the director must have Latin-American nationality.
If you have submitted your project for both Latin Pitch and Speed Meetings and you’re
selected, the selection committee will determine which category your project is most
suited for.
Projects selected will have 14 minutes in total for their pitch distributed as follows: 7
minutes to pitch the project (including the screening of the teaser clip), which will be
followed by another 7 minutes question-and-answer session with the Panel.
The day after the Latin Pitch, one-on-one meetings will be held between projects and
financers based on the financers’ requests. These meetings will be scheduled
previously by DocsBarcelona team and also set in place.
Latin Pitch participants will attend a training workshop to fine tune their projects and
pitching skills to have the best opportunity for a successful meeting with broadcasters
and funders, and improve the chances of financing their documentary. The workshop
is included in the registration fee for selected projects at the Latin Pitch.
The Latin Pitch will take place on Thursday, May 25th from 4:00pm to 6:30pm, at
Barcelona city centre. The one-on-one meetings will take place on Friday, May 26th
from 10:00am to 2:00pm.
The Latin Pitch registration fee for selected projects is 425€ (21% VAT included). The

The Interactive Pitch will consist in the presentation of 4 projects in front of a selection
of financers, especially interested in this kind of projects, and DocsBarcelona

accredited professionals.
Interactive, web-based, cross-platform or convergent media projects must include the
interactive treatment and all the different platforms that the project may have in the
written PDF document submitted at the entry form.
In order to submit a project it is mandatory to provide an online screener of the teaser.

interactive clip (a simulation to show the possible interactivity of the project) during their
pitch presentation.
3 out of 4 documentary projects will be selected from the Open Call. The one project
remaining will be chosen in collaboration with the documentary festival
DocsBarcelona Valparaíso (Chile).
If you have submitted your project for both Interactive Pitch and Speed Meetings and
you’re selected, the selection committee will determine which category your project is
most suited for.
Projects selected will have 14 minutes in total for their pitch distributed as following: 7
minutes to pitch the project (including the screening of the interactive clip and keynote
presentation if needed), which will be followed by another 7 minutes question-andanswer session with the Panel.
The same day after the Interactive Pitch, one-on-one meetings will be held between
projects and financers based on the financers’ requests. These meetings will be
scheduled previously by DocsBarcelona team and also set in place.
Interactive Pitch participants will attend a training workshop to fine tune their projects
and pitching skills to have the best opportunity for a successful meeting with
broadcasters and funders, and improve the chances of financing their documentary.
The workshop is included in the registration fee for selected projects at the Interactive
Pitch.
The Interactive Pitch will take place on Wednesday, May 24th from 12:00pm to
2:00pm, at Barcelona city centre. The one-on-one meetings will take place on the
same Wednesday, May 24th from 3:00pm to 4:30pm.
The Interactive Pitch registration fee for selected projects is 363€ (21% VAT included).
