Ground Handling Nitrogen Service The brake pneumatic system

400A
Ground Handling
Nitrogen Service
The brake pneumatic system nitrogen storage bottle is located in the LH electronics
compartment; access to the bottle is through the LH electronics compartment door located on the
LH side on the nose section. A pressure gauge is located on the RH side panel of the cockpit.
Pressure in the nitrogen storage bottle must be maintained at 1500 psi.
Battery
The electrical system utilizes one 24 VDC 36 ampere-hour Ni-Cad battery. Access for servicing
is through the tail cone baggage compartment.
Emergency Exits
The airplane has two emergency exit doors, including the LH forward cabin door and the RH
cabin window placarded "EXIT-PULL" for exit over the wing.
External Power
The standard AN-type external power receptacle is located on the left side of the fuselage, aft of
the tail cone baggage compartment door.
Fueling
WARNING: Static grounding requires that the fuel dispenser be grounded to one of the
grounding jacks.
The LH and RH wing fuel tanks are gravity filled through the fillers located inboard of each
wing tip. The aft fuselage fuel tank filler is located on the right side of the upper fuselage at
F.S.8242.
Fuel system total capacity using gravity fill: 739.89 US gallons.
Fuel System total capacity using fuselage fill system prior to RJ-34: 746.01 US gallons.
Fuel System total capacity using fuselage fill system at RJ-34 and after: 749.00 US gallons.
Fuel Grades and Types: Jet A, Jet A-1, Jet B, JP-4, JP-5, and JP-8 fuels may be mixed in any
ratio.
Static grounding
Static grounding requires that the fuel dispenser be grounded to one of the grounding jacks
located on the bottom side of the wing approximately below the fuel filler caps, and forward of
the nose landing gear on the right side of the nose. These grounding jacks accommodate the P/N
MS3493-1 grounding plug assembly.
Hoisting / Lifting
Strap sling hoisting should be accomplished by positioning the forward strap at F.S. 162.00 and
the aft strap at F.S. 316.54. Overhead crane attach point is at F.S. 74.95, with the fuel tanks
drained.
CAUTION: The hydraulic system reservoir system is pressurized. Remove filler cap slowly
until pressure is released through the bleed hole.
Hydraulic Reservoir
The hydraulic system reservoir is filled through the filler port mounted on the hydraulic package
located in the aft fuselage. Access is through the tail cone baggage compartment. The capacity of
the reservoir is approximately 1.1 gallons at FULL level.
CAUTION: When filling the hydraulic system reservoir, all hydraulic functional
components must be shut off and the engine shut down.
Fill with MIL-H-5606 red hydraulic fluid until the level shows FULL on the sight gauge, located
on the hydraulic package with access through the tail cone baggage compartment. If fluid level is
above FULL, connect a hose to the drain port and drain off excess fluid.
Engine Oil
Access to the LH and RH engine oil tanks is through the oil access doors located forward and
outboard on the upper nacelle access door. Unlock the filler cap, withdraw the dipstick and
service as required with the recommended jet oil to raise the oil level to the MAX HOT level.
Engine oil level is checked with the engine shut down. Whenever possible the level check should
be conducted within 15 minutes after engine shut down. This procedure will provide a tank level
check while the tank contains a maximum amount of actual system oil, thus preventing overservicing. Capacity is 2.03 gallons per engine of approved jet oil. Refer to Pratt & Whitney
Service Bulletin No. 7001 for the correct type of oil.
CAUTION: Do not mix different brands of oil when adding or changing oil in accordance
with Pratt & Whitney Service Bulletin No. 7001.
CAUTION: The filler cap seal must be clean and the cap properly secured, or loss of
engine oil will occur.
Oxygen Service
The oxygen filler valve is located inside the RH electronics compartment door in the nose
section. A pressure gauge is provided on the RH side panel of the flight compartment. The
system must be charged with aviator's breathing oxygen to a pressure of 1850 psig under normal
atmospheric conditions.
Parking Brake
The brakes can be set for parking by depressing the pilot's brake pedals and pulling out the
parking brake control, located at the lower left side of the instrument subpanel. The brake is
released by pushing the handle in.
CAU'T'ION: Do not set the parking brake when the brakes are hot. Hydraulic pressure and wheel
temperature may rise to a dangerous level if brakes are not allowed to cool.
Do not set the parking brake when outside temperature is at or below 32 ° F. Accumulated
moisture may freeze and prevent release of parking brake. Chock all wheels securely.
