Name: Due Date: Per: Objective: Create a poster of an ecosystem as a team that will demonstrate abiotic and biotic features and the flow of energy and matter within an ecosystem. Procedure: 1. Chose the type of ecosystem you would like to create. It should be a realistic natural ecosystem. (Ex: Swamp, Forest, Desert, Ocean, Pond, etc.) 2. Create a rough draft on a piece of scrap paper. Use a pencil or fold your paper to make 4 equal sized sections of your rough draft paper. 3. You need to have one set of factors that show interdependence that match up with your partner’s paper. (Example: An orca on one person’s paper eating a salmon that is on a different partner’s paper). Clearly label the relationship on the arrow. 4. Be sure each section of the poster has an example of a producer, consumer and decomposer. 5. Be sure each section of the poster has an example of at least 3 biotic factors and 3 abiotic factors. 6. Each student will take one of the 4 sections and draw a larger version on a clean piece of 8 ½ by 11 paper. The final copy should be carefully completed with at least 2/3 of the picture colored (this includes the background as well). The lines from each student’s picture should line up with the lines from the other’s pictures. 7. Be sure draw and label 3 biotic factors, 3 abiotic factors, a producer, consumer and decomposer FOR EACH OF THE FOUR PARTS OF THE POSTER. Each individual should have different examples of these pieces of the ecosystem. 8. If you run out of time you may cut the rough draft into 4 parts and each take your part home to finish. 9. When your group is finished, it should fit together like a simple puzzle! Grading Criteria: 3 biotic factors labeled as biotic 3 abiotic factors labeled as abiotic A producer, consumer and decomposer labeled Organisms and lines connected with neighbor’s 2/3 colored with a natural background Grammar, Effort, Appearance Total 1.5 pts. 1.5 pts. 3 pts. 2 pts. 1 pt. 1 pt. 10 pts. Interconnected Ecosystem (Individual Version) Objective: Create a mini poster of an ecosystem that will demonstrate abiotic and biotic features and the interdependence of organisms within an ecosystem. Procedure: 1. Chose the type of ecosystem you would like to create. It should be a realistic natural ecosystem. (Ex: Swamp, Forest, Desert, Ocean, Pond, etc.) 2. Create a rough draft on a piece of scrap paper. 3. You need to have one set of factors that show interdependence. (Example: An orca eating a salmon). 4. Come up with at least (you may have more) 3 biotic and 3 abiotic factors labeled in your rough draft. 5. Complete a final copy version on a clean piece of 8 ½ by 11 paper. The final copy should be carefully completed with at least 2/3 of the picture colored (this includes the background as well). 6. Be sure to have 3 biotic factors labeled and 3 abiotic factors labeled.
