Singular and Plural Agreement
To identify or to describe, SER’s the verb that gives the vibe!
When we describe other people in Spanish, we use the verb SER, and we have to make sure
that the adjectives we use AGREE with the gender of the person we are talking about.
La chica es bonita.
Alfonso es guapo.
La maestra es inteligente.
The Guidelines:
 When the word is masculine, or represents a male, the adjectives end
with –o
o el pelo corto
o el chico nuevo
 When the word is feminine, or represents a female, the adjectives end
with –a
o la mochila roja
o la maestra bonita
 BUT…..when an adjective ends in an –e or in a consonant, we aren’t
allowed to change its gender, so we leave it alone.
o el perro inteligente
o la casa grande
We know we have good agreement when we can make smileys with the endings of the words.
Circle the ends of the words to check for good agreement:
La muchacha es alta.
El chico es interesante.
La maestra es seria.

¿Cómo son….?
Plural Agreement
When we are describing more than one person or thing at a time, we use the question,
“Cómo son?”
And when we answer, we must be sure that the adjectives reflect the fact that the subject is
now PLURAL.
Guidelines:
 Add –s to adjectives that end in –o, -a, or –e.
o los cuadernos morados
o las maestras divertidas
 Add –es to adjectives that end with consonants
o los actores guapos
o las pruebas fáciles
