SWEDISH COMPANIES NEED TO AWARE OF TRADE
BARRIERS WHEN EXPORTING TO THE MIDDLE EAST
EXAMPLE OF TRADE BARRIERS
 Custom clearance is usually a challenging job when it
comes to exporting to the ME. Having a good, well
reputable Custom Clearance agent is therefore very
essential
EXAMPLE OF TRADE BARRIERS
 Establishing and maintaining a relationship is a central
part of the business process and you will find that
maintaining a “friendly” relationship with potential clients
and partners will take you far in the Middle East
 Halal certificates of food products can be obtained from
Islamic centers issuing “Halal Slaughtering Certificate”
worldwide being approved by the “Muslim World League”
 Think of it as the start of a long-term business
relationship, investing time and energy into this. Doing
business within a country in the Middle East can open
doors to others, as it will give you a track record in the
region
 Locals are much more equipped to understand the
market and will usually go the extra mile to get the word
out about your products. Therefore, having a local
representative will help smooth procedures especially in
the Middle East. Once the word has gotten out, don't
expect to be able to charge the same prices for your
products. Per capita income is significantly lower in the
Middle East and you will have to lower your margins to
make a dent in market share
BUSINESS SWEDEN
 Don’t focus on short-term profits and transactions at the
expense of long-term relationships
DECEMBER 2016
