The Association of Metallurgy has twenty member companies
working in the fields of:
• extraction of metal ores,
• manufacture of basic metals,
• as well as in other fields related to metallurgy.
THE MAIN GOALS AND TASKS OF THE ASSOCIATION

The main goals and tasks of the Association are focused on: promoting its
activities and tackling current problems in its scope of operation, reconciling any
discrepancies and differing interests, adopting conclusions and suggesting measures
of common interest to its members, reviewing
draft laws and other regulations and
launching initiatives for amending laws
and bylaws, initiating and establishing
cooperation of common interest with
members of other associations,
establishing
international
cooperation, putting efforts
into improving the business
climate,
stimulating
implementation of European
rules and standards etc.

METALLURGY IN THE REPUBLIC OF MACEDONIA
Association of Metallurgy
Metallurgy in the Republic of Macedonia is centered on extracting metal ores and
production of basic metals; as such, it is the engine of Macedonia’s economy as it accounts for
one third of total national exports.
Manufacturers of basic metals in the Republic of Macedonia use complex technical
and technological systems, state-of-the-art equipment and technologies made by world-famous
manufacturers, thus proving this industry’s significance as a strategic sector.
A number of foreign companies have invested in this sector, mostly in the areas of
manufacturing cold-rolled, hot-rolled and coated sheets, ferroalloys, molds and pipes, steel
reinforcements and other types of products.
The existing plants manufacture:

ferronickel,
steel reinforcements,

Ferrous and non-ferrous metallurgy are of paramount importance to the national
economy, a fact reflected in the following economic parameters: this industry’s GDP share stands
at 7.53%; it provides jobs for 14.9% of the total employed workforce and has an 11% share in the
added value created by the processing industry.
Moreover, this processing industry accounts for 35% of the total exports from the
Republic of Macedonia.
Manufacture of basic metals, which is part of the metal sector, is focused on production
of rolled semi-products, hot rolled flat products, pipes, iron and steel casts, ferroalloys, aluminum,
grey iron sheets as well as extracting metal ores.
Manufacture of basic metals and extraction of metal ores account for 12.24% of total
industrial production.
Basic metals’ share in total exports is over 25.25% (exports of basic metals and metal
ores account for 30.2% of Macedonia’s total exports), making them the Republic of Macedonia’s
most prominent exported goods. About 10 companies working in the field of metallurgy and
metal ore extraction export these goods.
Ferronickel, iron and steel, silicomanganese, and metal pipes remain Macedonia’s top
exported products.
