Partners in Progress
We were among the first to form Friends of the Parks
groups in the state. Tracing our roots back to 1953 as
a committee to design and implement improvements
for the 350-acre park, the Friends of Andrew Jackson
State Park was officially formed in 1997.
We are proud of our accomplishments, achieved in
partnership with park staff, the South Carolina
Department of Parks, Recreation & Tourism, and the
local community. In 2000, our group received the
State Park Service’s Ambassador of the Year Award.
In 2006, we received the prestigious state tourism
Bundy Award for outstanding progress in a rural state
park.
Looking forward, our volunteer re-enactors, teachers,
ambassadors and behind-the-scenes workers continue
to strive to make Andrew Jackson State Park the best
in the state - an attraction to the local community as
well as to visitors from across the country and around
the world.
