EC New York: New Yorker Residence The New Yorker Residence is located in the famous Herald Square area, within walking distance of Times Square, Broadway and OffBroadway Theatres, Madison Square Garden, and the Empire State Building. DESCRIPTION OF ACCOMMODATION BOARD STATUS The New Yorker Residence is located on floors 15-18 of the New Yorker Hotel, which offers fully-furnished single or twin en-suite rooms with a TV, high-speed internet and refrigerator. These fully-furnished rooms are a great choice for students on the go, looking for an independent experience. The residence features lounges, a laundry room and a gym facility. Linen will be provided but students should bring their own towels. Students will cook for themselves, and are responsible for maintaining their own rooms,cleaning products can be purchased inexpensively nearby. The building staff cleans the common areas (hallways, lounges, kitchens) daily. After you collect your baggage from Baggage Claim and/or pass through Customs, go to the Welcome Center Cellphone Charging Station. This is the last area BEFORE the exit of the airport building where passengers meet the people who come to pick them up. Your driver will be waiting for you INSIDE the arrival waiting gallery. Look for someone holding up a sign with your name on it and the EC Logo. If you are arriving at JFK airport, please make sure to look out for the EC driver as you exit customs/immigration and then once you receive your luggage. You should keep your eyes open and look out for an EC New York sign with your name displayed on it. If your first flight into the U.S. is delayed or your flight number is changed, you must call or text: +1 (0) 718 506 8424. If you arrive at the airport and cannot find your driver, you should also call +1 (0) 718 506 8424. If your flight is delayed or cancelled, you must call to reschedule at least two hours before your originally scheduled pick-up time. Otherwise, you will have to pay for a second transfer or take a taxi. You should not get into a car with anyone who does not have this EC sign. If there is an emergency, call ECNY’s emergency line +1 (0) 347567-3543. IF YOU DID NOT REQUEST AN AIRPORT PICK-UP, YOU HAVE SEVERAL WAYS TO GET TO YOUR RESIDENCE Taxi: Go to the taxi stand outside, and tell the driver that you are going to 8th Ave. between 34th St. and 35th St. in Manhattan. (The address is: 481 8th Ave.) AirTrain: 1. Take the Jamaica Station/Sutphin Line to Jamaica Station/Sutphin 2. Transfer to the E train headed toward Manhattan and get off at Penn Station/34th St. 3. Leave the station from the 8th Ave. Exit, and walk north toward 35th St. The New Yorker will be on the west side of 8th Ave. between 34th St. and 35th St. Express Bus: 1. Take the Express bus from JFK Airport to Penn Station. 2. Leave the station from the 8th Ave. Exit, and walk north toward 35th St. The New Yorker will be on the west side of 8th Ave. between 34th St. and 35th St. Departure Transfers If you booked a departure transfer with EC, please come to the front desk on your last week. We will arrange for the pickup time 4 hours before your flight and pick you up from your accommodation. We plan for 4 hours to accommodate travel time, traffic, security and clearance. If you would like to book a departure transfer, you come to the front desk any time before your last week. ARRIVAL PROCEDURES FOR STUDENTS When you arrive at the New Yorker, please give your first and last name and tell the security guard by the elevators that you are checking in with EHS student. The security guard should then direct you to the student housing office on the 15th floor or give you a temporary key. You do not need to provide any deposit or security hold to the residence. The residence office is not open 24 hours a day, however if you arrive outside office hours the keys will be left at the security desk for you to pick up upon arrival. JOURNEY TO SCHOOL The easiest way to get to school is to walk. The residence is 1 subway stop or an 8 minute walk from the school. Students can purchase a weekly ($30) or monthly($112)Unlimited Ride MetroCard from Subway Station Booths or Metro Card Vending Machines (prices may vary). 2 NOTES A damage deposit slip will be collected on the first day of school. Payment will not be collected unless there are damages to the room No smoking is permitted in the residence - designated smoking outside No alcohol permitted in the building, regardless of age Unlimited free local phone service available for all students Living in a student residence is ideal for students aged between 18 – 25 years. We strongly recommend anyone over the age of 28 years to book alternative accommodation. Kitchen supplies are not provided and can be purchased inexpensively nearby. Some kitchen supplies may be available at the school for a small deposit. Supplies include sauté pans, pots, can openers, spatulas, wooden spoons, & mesh strainers. It is the students’ responsibility to purchase cups, plates, forks, knives, and spoons. In order to be refunded the deposit, any supplies lent out must be returned clean and in the same condition that the student received it.
