SPECIFICATIONS - DVDs - 2016 - 2017
The DVD collection at Yarra Plenty Regional Library continues to be extremely popular.
Although, it appears nearly impossible to bridge the gap between supply and demand
based on our annual loans and turnover statistics, we are hoping to tailor the DVD
collection to borrowers’ expectations.
One of the recurrent themes in the responses from our annual Collections survey
conducted in March 2016 indicated a need to procure more copies of popular material.
It is therefore, the focus for procurement in 2016-2017 will continue to be on popular
material as per the specifications below.
NB: As per last financial year, the monitoring of the budget spend will be essential to
ascertain potential for over or under spending
ADULT DVDs
New release films:
Are to be supplied at the point of release if they are:
 Literature based: book, play, poem, graphic novel, comic etc. As a rule
screenplays are not included in this category unless they are included in the
Industry award listing.

Industry award listing: include all winners and nominated films in the list
provided from the awards held within the 2016-2017 financial year. Please do
not include any nominated films from any other awards.

Series:
Fictional TV series
Series can be supplied regardless of production/TV station origin as long as:
 The series is based on a literary publication, as per criteria for film
procurement.

Industry award listing: include all winners and nominated series in the list
provided from the awards held within the 2016-2017 financial year. The series
need to be industry awarded and not popular (as voted by the viewing public).
Please do not include series from any other awards.

Please supply the most recent series volume as per the selection criteria ie. If a
nominated/winning series is not the first season/episode, purchase previous
seasons/episodes only if requested by patron. Yarra Plenty will place these
orders.

Series Spin-Offs will not be purchased if they don’t fit the specification criteria
Non-fiction titles/Documentaries:
The loans for this genre are reducing dramatically therefore do not supply any nonfiction title/documentary DVDs unless:



The title has been requested specifically by Yarra Plenty, or
The title fits our current TV series criteria.
The title is a winner or nominated documentary in the specified awards.
JUNIOR DVDs





New release movies can be supplied as many/most do have a literature base.
Disney animated features and family rated films.
ABC/BBC TV titles – please include new releases and re-issues.
Completed children’s’ series e.g. Australian Children’s Television foundation
productions, BBC productions.
Cartoons: Classics e.g. Looney Tunes etc.
